Q. & A. with Elizabeth
Why did you start breeding?
When my husband and I moved to our farm, I decided I wanted to try showing dogs. I, of course, started in Great Danes. I purchased my first show dog and the rest is history! I fell in love with a well bred dog and breed preservation.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Miniature Bull Terrier puppies include black tan and white and black and brindle. Great Dane puppies include mantle merle, black and white, harlequin, mantle, and merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Ditto
Ditto is an old soul at heart. She loves to have company and will hang out on the couch or outside if that's where you are. She loves to run laps around the 2 acre yard and wrestle with her bully sisters. She is very gentle by nature and enjoys sunbathing on a spring or fall afternoon. While she is a quite dane, she is still very athletic and loves a good rabbit chase!

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Iron Horse Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Great Danes.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
