I'm Cindy H., the breeder behind Jackalope Poodles located in Veneta, OR. Our Poodles are carefully selected for health, conformation, and temperament. Our goal is to produce versatile dogs who excel in the field as well as in the home. Poodles should be able to spend long days hunting as well as days in curled up by the fireplace.
Q. & A. with Cindy
Why did you start breeding?
I grew up showing and breeding pigeons. I just loved the environment and thrived in the lifestyle. I ended up marrying a gunsmith who is heavily into hunting. When you combine the two you inevitably land on Gun Dogs. By chance I received my very first Standard Poodle who is the best hunting buddy and companion that I have ever had.
What makes your program special?
Not many Standard Poodle breeders focus on the working ability of Poodles anymore. Our program made that our highest priority. Poodles are amazing Gun Dogs. They can track, flush, and retrieve. You may think Poodles are just a pretty face but I implore you to watch a Poodle do it's job. They'll blow you away.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, blue, and silver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

About Summit
Summit is a gorgeous and confident girl. She has amazing genetic diversity as an outlier with very uncommon haplotypes. She has beautiful drive and jaw dropping elegance. Summit loves to play frisbee, chase the lure, go after bumpers in the lake, and spend a day on the couch. She has great ball and food drive. Amazing bird drive with the ability to recall and remain neutral intact. Summit's lines include some phenomenal hunting dogs so I'm hoping for a few hunting prospects out of this litter. Conformationally, Summit has a gorgeous face and a lovely correct gait. Nice tight feet and a correct topline. Her rear assembly is beautiful and her front assembly is great. Overall a very balanced dog and I'm looking forward to seeing what she produces.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Jackalope Poodles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Standard Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEwS), von Willebrand Disease III (vWD III), Genetic Diversity Test
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
