Meet the breeder

I'm Bob S., the breeder behind JANUS Mudis & Toy Fox Terriers located in Benson, AZ. Bob Shailer & Phil Lasswell started breeding and exhibiting group winning and placing Chow Chows at AKC conformations shows in 1987 under the program name "JANUS". In 1991, we added Japanese Chins. We bred and exhibited group placing Chins. We owned the Top winning Japanese Chin in Canada in the early 90s. We also bred and raised champion Alpacas for 26 years. In 2013, we retired from Spokane to Benson, AZ (30 mile SE of Tucson). In 2019, we obtained our first black merle Mudi female, "Paige", who became the first Mudi to ever win Best In Show at a UKC show. She is a GCH CH Group placing bitch with AKC. We selectively breed to the best dogs possible with good depth of health screening. We do all the proper health testing for both breeds. Our dogs live in our home and travel in our RV to dog shows. They all swim in our pool and go for daily walks around the neighborhood. We want well socialized and sound dogs to live in the real world!

Q. & A. with Bob

  • Why did you start breeding?

Started showing & breeding AKC dogs in the mid 80s. We are happy to share our knowledge about the Mudi & Toy Fox Terrier breeds. We breed to the AKC standard for show & companion. We do all the required health testing for each breed.
  • What makes your program special?

We take responsible breeding very seriously. As breeders, we are stewards of the future of the Mudi, so we are careful to always maintain ethical breeding practices. This includes proper health testing, intentional breeding for specific traits, and raising our puppies with proper socialization. We love what we do, and can't wait to connect with you!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Mudi puppies include black merle and black. Toy Fox Terrier puppies include white black and tan and white and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?
