Meet the breeder

I'm Bob S., the breeder behind JANUS SHOW DOGS (Mudik & Bolognese) located in Benson, AZ. Bob Shailer & Phil Lasswell started breeding 1983. We bred and showed group winning Chow Chows at AKC conformations shows under the program name "JANUS". In 1991, we added Japanese Chins. We bred and exhibited group placing Chins. We owned the Top winning Japanese Chin in Canada in the early 90s. We also bred and raised champion Alpacas for 26 years. In 2019, we obtained our first black merle Mudi female, "Paige", who became the first Mudi to ever win Best In Show at a UKC show. She is a GCH CH Group placing bitch with AKC. We imported Bolognese from the UK and Sweden from top European breeders and from Mesilla Valley Bolognese in AR. We own the 2024 Top Bolognese Dog and bitch in the U.S. We selectively breed to the best dogs possible with good depth of health screening. We do all the proper health testing for both breeds. We offer full disclosure. Our dogs live in our home. We want well socialized and sound dogs to live in the real world! We sell occasionally show and companion dogs of both breeds.

Q. & A. with Bob

  • Why did you start breeding?

Started showing & breeding AKC dogs in the mid 80s. We are happy to share our knowledge about the Mudi & Bolognese breeds. We breed to the AKC standard for show & companion. We do all the required health testing for each breed.
  • What makes your program special?

We have some top winning Bolognese in the U.S. We have imported 2 males. One from the UK & the other from Sweden. Our 2 bitches are born in the U.S. from European bloodlines.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Mudi puppies include black merle, brown, and black. Bolognese puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
