Meet the breeder

I'm Sheila K., the breeder behind King's Miniature American Shepherds located in Tonopah, AZ. Each of our dogs has brought so much joy to our family throughout their lives. We work hard to provide dogs that are going to bring you that same joy. We are always striving to improve our beloved breed. We focus on improved health, temperament, conformation, and longevity.

Q. & A. with Sheila

  • Why did you start breeding?

We have been raising and breeding AKC Miniature American Shepherds since 2017. Our family has always enjoyed herding breeds and intelligent dogs that are a pleasure to raise and train and they make wonderful companions but have enough drive and energy to go on those fun adventures. We like to breed MAS with calmer more neutral temperaments than higher drive dogs as they tend to make better pets.
  • What makes your program special?

We strive to breed healthy, happy and intelligent puppies that will fit well into your life. We pride ourselves in helping you find the right match and love keeping in touch with our customers, offering lifetime support! )ur puppies come UTD on vaccines and deworming. We supplement with raw ingredients and kelp. We have children at home that help us socialize our puppies on a daily basis.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black tri, red tri-color, red merle, and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

It’s been over a month since we adopted Rain (Reign) from Sheila at King’s Miniature American Shepherds, and we truly couldn’t be happier. Sheila was so easy to communicate with and patiently answered all one thousand questions we had. She even went out of her way to bring one of their outdoor cats inside to see how Rain responded, which was incredibly important to us since we have an indoor cat. Rain couldn’t have cared less about their cat and has shown only mild curiosity toward ours. Rain has an amazing temperament, even our vet was impressed with her. She’ll be two years old in just a few months, and she is so sweet, gentle, silly, and also a little missile! She runs FAST, easily keeping up with our daughter’s much bigger dog, and she can jump ridiculously high and far. Her energy keeps us active, but she also has an off switch and is just as happy powered down, curled up at our feet under the table or on our lap on the couch. She came to us VERY well trained: housebroken, kennel trained, excellent on leash, incredible in the car, and her recall is phenomenal. When we call her, she comes immediately—no hesitation. It’s very obvious how much time, training, and care Sheila put into Rain before she ever came to us. We feel incredibly lucky to have her and would absolutely recommend Sheila and King’s Miniature American Shepherds to anyone looking for a well-bred, well-trained MAS with a fantastic temperament.

Sheila was such a gift to find. From the beginning, she was warm, patient, communicative, and clearly so deeply invested in her dogs and puppies. You can tell these puppies are genuinely loved and thoughtfully raised, and that care shows the second you bring one home. We got Pixel from Prada x Charlie, and she has brought us so much joy already. What stood out immediately was how secure, socialized, and comfortable she was from day one. She adjusted so smoothly, seemed incredibly well cared for, and honestly felt almost half potty trained already. She came into our home with such a calm, confident foundation, which made the transition so much easier. I also really appreciated that the puppies get exposure to both kids and other dogs early on. That kind of thoughtful start makes such a difference, and it truly felt like Pixel was set up for a happy, healthy transition into her new home. We’re so grateful to Sheila and would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a mini shepherd.

Grateful to have found King Family Ranch. It was a great experience working with and being guided in this process by Sheila. Accessible to communicate, flexible with meeting times and locations, detailed recommendations and what to expect during travel with our new puppy and care, attentive to following-up. Our new family member is healthy, lovable, friendly, full of energy, playful, a great companion and guardian. We are thankful for Herold, he is perfect, our son’s happiness is priceless❤️

It was only a month ago that we could start our search for a new canine companion after losing our Oreo a year ago. As an older couple (69 & 76), we wanted a mature companion that we could be reasonably certain would be intelligent, loyal, quick to train, calm, and affectionate. We feel very fortunate to have found Kings Ranch, Sheila, and Indie. We met Indie and within 20 minutes knew that she was the companion we needed and wanted. Six years old, having had 4 litters of AKC award winning pups, she was ready for a safe, secure retirement. The purchase transaction was easy and secure, with Kings Ranch providing thorough documentation of Indie's health and genetic status. Indie, even though anxious at first (a lot of drooling) has settled right in, taking to her crate at night, cheerfully walking every morning and afternoon with Tim. At home she shadows us throughout the day and seems calm and comfortable; so nice to have a companion in our home again. My husband prefers a short groomed coat, so you'll see that in the two pictures we've provided. She has an appointment with our vet so that we can document her current health baseline and then keep her healthy for many years to come. We are very happy with all aspects of our dealings with Kings Ranch and Sheila. If any of Indie's pups are still available, we heartily encourage you to acquire one!

Our first time working with a breeder and we were thrilled with Sheila and King Family Ranch. Our circumstances were a bit different as we were getting an older puppy, 8 months, and traveling from out of state. Sheila answered all of our questions, which were many and varied. We met halfway between our homes and took ownership of our beloved “Tully”. Now 2 months later, she is part of our family. We get constant compliments on her disposition, looks and smarts. We are looking forward to many adventures with her.
