I'm Kate M., the breeder behind Kinobi Standard Schnauzers located in Etna, ME. My love of dogs began 50 years ago with a Miniature Poodle puppy, Samantha. I've had many dogs through my life, both purebred and mixed breeds, including many shelter rescues.
Once I found the Standard Schnauzer something clicked and I've had at least one Standard in my home for almost 20 years!
Q. & A. with Kate
Why did you start breeding?
I never intended on breeding, but when I couldn't find the type of dog I wanted, another breeder told me to breed for what I wanted. I bred my first litter as the pandemic began in March of 2020, and we welcomed six puppies in May 2020. There were many challenges in raising a pandemic litter - socialization being the biggest. With the help of local breeders we made it through and found creative solutions.
What makes your program special?
The SSCA recommends 3 areas of testing for our breed: DCM, hip dysplasia and eyes. We also do elbows. All results are available at OFA.org under the dog's registered name. Names are provided upon request.
*At this time we only breed DCM negative dogs - we do not utilize DCM carriers in our breeding program.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are pepper and salt. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
Matched dogs
These dogs are already reserved or have gone home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Dilated Cardiomyopathy (Schnauzer Type)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
