I'm Carrie F., the breeder behind Kol Tuv Canaan Dogs located in Vail, AZ. I've been breeding to preserve the bloodline of the ancient, natural, rare Canaan Dog since 2002. While focusing on temperament, health, and breed standard, my special interest is diversity. I use Puppy Culture protocols to raise solid, stable, happy Canaan Dogs.
Q. & A. with Carrie
Why did you start breeding?
My love and dedication for Canaan Dogs inspired me to share this amazing breed with the world in a responsible way. It is important to me not only that I preserve my own phenomenal bloodlines, but that I am improving this breed with each litter and ensuring the well-being of these dogs for generations more to come!
What makes your program special?
In addition to being a responsible breeder/owner/handler competing in various AKC/UKC/IABCA performance events, my dogs have AKC Trick titles, participate in herding clinics, and have earned various versatility titiles. My very first Canaan Dog, Ms. Maccabee, was even the first Canaan Dog to receive the AKC Therapy Dog title! My program is conscious and intentional, and the quality of my puppies reflects the careful decisions I make throughout every part of the breeding process.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Kol Tuv Canaan Dogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Canaan Dogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
