Meet the breeder

I'm Debbie S., the breeder behind KP Golden Retrievers located in Gig Harbor, WA. The original purpose in creating the Golden Retriever breed was to be a “Gentleman’s Gun Dog” – having beauty, temperament (gentle/loving/loyal), brains & working abilities as a retriever. The focus of the KP Golden Retrievers Kennel breeding program is to produce intelligent, healthy, and talented puppies with solid structure and locomotion (1) who will advance the golden retriever breed (particularly the “field” type of goldens), (2) who will be an asset with regard to the retriever competition world, and (3) who will serve as incredible representatives of the canine species and provide families with excellent dual-purpose (family/working) dogs who will be loved, cherished and well-cared for their entire lives.

Q. & A. with Debbie

  • Why did you start breeding?

As a young child, I experienced the devotion that is given by a dog. After my first Golden I knew I could never be without one. I owe it to every Golden I have had to give the breed as much devotion and love in return. To continue to give my heart and soul to them. Health and temperament are focal points to my breeding program. I am now in hunt tests and judging to continue the work they love.
  • What makes your program special?

I do everything I can to assure I have set them up for a great life in their new family to make many memories. This starts with DNA & health clearances. I provide weeks of socialization/exposure “training” to help with the transition. They are beginning with crate & potty training. They leave microchipped, wormed, shots, with a sales contract/health guarantee, AKC reg. papers and lifetime support.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Debbie was fantastic & provided regular updates throughout the entire process from start to finish. Very knowledgeable & thorough. Without Debbie I would’ve never found our family member Cairo who we love so much. He’s perfect. If we ever decide to add another member to our family I will look no further than Debbie & KP :) thank you

Rye is exactly the dog we envisioned and was definitely worth the wait. Couldn’t recommend KP Goldens enough- Debbie was great to work with, great communication through the whole process and you can tell she really cares about each pup. Rye is small for a retriever and we absolutely love it. At 10 months she is around 35 to 40 pounds, a complete sweetie pie and very smart. She also doesn’t bark at small animals and just go incredibly still and watches- I’m sure it’s a product of her breeding. 10/10
