Meet the breeder

I'm Lyn R., the breeder behind League of Shepherds located in Hayward, WI. We aim to preserve and enhance the legacy of the West German Showline German Shepherd through ethical, responsible breeding practices. We are dedicated to producing dogs of exceptional temperament, structural soundness, and working ability — true to the breed’s heritage.

Q. & A. with Lyn

  • Why did you start breeding?

We chose to breed West German Showline German Shepherds because we believe that they are the embodiment of loyalty, strength, bravery, and confidence. We wanted to share the joy of bringing home a new furbaby without the worries of unknown triggers or health concerns that you'd get from a shelter dog.
  • What makes your program special?

Our program is 100% within our home - no separate building. Our dogs live with us as family, instead of being isolated into runs where they get minimal interaction with people or other animals. They go on walks regularly and we make it a daily habit of sitting outside with them so they get plenty of playtime in the yard.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include stock and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Lyn

Lyn has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Lyn partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“We take great pride in making sure that every puppy is placed with the right home. At 6 weeks of age, we go in order of deposits received and offer our opinion on which puppy's temperament best suits the buyer and their family. Ultimately the decision is theirs, but we do try to weigh in.”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,500 - $2,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.
Pay over time with Klarna.

“The pricing includes the first round of vaccines, 3 rounds of dewormer, a wellness exam, and a full puppy pack. There is no difference in pricing for a litter, meaning that males, females, long coat, and stock coat are all the same price.”

Contract & health guarantee

Lyn may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. If Lyn offers a contract or guarantee, the details will be personalized by them. If you have any questions or want to know more, don't hesitate to reach out to Lyn directly.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

League of Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test, Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
