Legacy Dutch Shepherds

Julie G.

Breeder of Dutch Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Julie G., the breeder behind Legacy Dutch Shepherds located in Carmel, IN. We are a family that simply fell in love with the Dutch Shepherd breed. We started Legacy Dutch Shepherds to promote the breed and sustain healthy bloodlines.

Q. & A. with Julie

  • What makes your program special?

Our dogs are treated as family from day 1. The puppies receive daily neurological stimulation and have A LOT of socialization with children, adults and individuals with mobility and neurological differences. The pups (when able) go on car rides (in crates) and are exposed to many people and environments, (e.g., offices and therapy clinics). The puppies will be introduced to crates and basic obedience. Our goal is to set the puppies up for future success as working and family dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are gold brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Great level

Legacy Dutch Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dutch Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Brucellosis

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Inflammatory Myopathy (Myositis)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
