I'm Carolyn E., the breeder behind Legacy Pets located in Westfield, NC. We are a family-run program offering loving and loyal companions to others. We focus on quality care and health with each litter we raise. Our puppies come with a health guarantee for genetic defects.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I have always loved animals and thoroughly enjoy having puppies around to watch play, and care for. After extensive research, our breeding program began with two dogs in 2001.

  • What makes your program special?

    I offer a health guarantee for genetic defects. This is possible since I do testing to pair the best option for the healthiest beginnings.

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Poodle puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Coton de Tulear puppies are white. Poodle puppies include red and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Carolyn

Carolyn has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and $3,300 final payment, before taxes & fees.

"The price includes health clearance by a veterinarian, first vaccine, dewormings up to date, health guarantee for genetic defects, AKC paperwork, various toys depending what we have onhand. Deposits are non-refundable but are transferable to another litter should the need arise."

  • Hip Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Primary Hyperoxaluria, DNA Disease Panel, Chondrodysplasia/Dwarfism, Multifocal Retinopathy 1 (CMR1), Neonatal Ataxia, Bandera's Disease, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    It was so easy working with Carolyn. She was very quick to respond and available any time to answer questions. We opted for the flight nanny option which Carolyn arranged for us. The flight nanny was also communicative and easy to work with the day we met at SFO airport.     We've adopted three other dogs before finding Carolyn (dba Legacy Pets) and adding Brooklyn to the family. While the headline is that we got an amazing, healthy, spunky puppy, there is so much more to the journey of getting there. Having owned dogs before, you'd think you "know it all" but Carolyn was a well of information. We felt very prepared for Brooklyn. And we learned things that made being her parents better for everyone. Carolyn was not just knowledgeable, but she was generous with her time, answering our questions (sometimes twice, lol) and being a great listener. These conversations often happened at times that were outside of working hours. Despite running a business (and having a family), she found time. We knew we were dealing with "good people" - she was invested in our being successful. She clearly communicated all that would happen; she got the puppy from her place to ours using a very reliable person; she humored us along the way, which helped with any anxiety expectant puppy parents have.     Carolyn answered every question we asked about the puppies, she even told us things we hadn't thought to ask yet which was very helpful. Carolyn was quick to respond to questions, even those asked fairly late in the evening. The adoption process was easy and pleasant and the puppies are real sweethearts. They are intelligent and easy to train, and they do like to talk to us sometimes. We received weekly pictures of the puppies as they grew and really liked being able to see them as they got closer to the age where we would get to take over their nurturing. The puppies each had a gift bag with them, which included a large stuffed toy dog, the toy was bigger than they were, the little girl is really attached to the white puppy, she likes to cuddle with it when she takes naps. The puppies spend most of their time in an indoor playyard, each day they spend a little more time outside of it. This way they have been able to see the older dogs and the older dogs have been able to see them without anybody being able to bother the other too much. The puppies are almost eleven weeks old and actually sleeping through the night, we believe part of the reason they are so comfortable is that they are cuddling with each other. The little boy puppy is now called Moki, which means precious in Japanese. And the little girl is Yuki, which means snow or happiness in Japanese. Carolyn was very knowledgeable and we had a good relationship on the phone and through text messages.
