Meet the breeder

I'm Jon P., the breeder behind LuckyDoodles located in Box Elder, SD. We love Aussies—every family needs one! Our mini doodles~84% Poodle (intelligence, hypoallergenic) 16% Aussie (loyalty, playfulness). Pumpkin "Rosie" (F1b, 70% Poodle) Snoopy "Tuck" (F1bbb, 94% Poodle). Selected for temperament & health. Farm-raised~chores by day/snuggles by night.

Q. & A. with Jon

  • Why did you start breeding?

My mother raised dachshunds so I was born into it. We also raised a variety of animals other than just dogs. My first solo experience was really rabbits. Our first two doodles (Lucy and Lucky) had their first and only litter and we were into breeding as a family. Lucky passed away shortly after we bought the farm, so we named it after him. We still have Lucy but she's retired.
  • What makes your program special?

Health-First Genetics: Every pup starts with parents who've been rigorously tested via Embark DNA. We select for robust health, screening for common concerns while celebrating their intelligence and vitality. Farm-Fresh, Family-Centric Raising: No kennels here—our dogs (just three cherished Aussies) live as pack members, herding sheep (and chickens) by day and curling up for storytime by night.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies are mini size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include red and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Good level

LuckyDoodles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Aussiedoodles.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Generalized, X-Linked Anhidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia, Shepherd Type, Alanine Aminotransferase Activity, Alexander Disease, Polyneuropathy (NDRG1), Alaskan Malamute Type, Encephalopathy, Alaskan Husky Type, Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS), 2,8-Dihydroxyadenine (2,8-DHA) Urolithiasis, DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
