I'm Madison M., the breeder behind Lyons Golden Retrievers located in Sulphur, LA. Responsibly and carefully bred Golden Retrievers according to the Golden Retriever Club of America’s Code of Ethics. Dogs are bred with the goal of temperament, type, and conformation of the ideal classic Golden Retriever, along with as very strict standards for health and longevity.
Puppies are raised through the “Puppy Culture” program, with ENS and ESI as well as general exposure to a variety of sounds, textures, toys, and once old enough with proper precautions, different people, various animals, and new places. Puppies are also temperament tested and evaluated for conformation to determine the type of home they will be best placed in.
Q. & A. with Madison
Why did you start breeding?
I became friends with Kiwi’s breeder, joining going to dog shows and helping with litters here and there. I was unsure which breed of dog I wanted to get into but after a couple years of hanging out with the golden retriever breed, I couldn’t not get one! Kiwi was selected out of a litter of 7 girls (+ 2 boys) to potentially be my foundation bitch for future breeding. She had lovely conformation and a solid temperament and seemed like she would be a great fit for my home. I showed her for a year myself and she earned her puppy of achievement certificate. After getting her preliminary health screenings done, we sent her with a professional handler, one of kiwi’s best friends, and she went on the road showing all over the country. Now, she has her final health screenings completed (passed) and multiple major wins in the conformation show ring, and she is ready to become a mom!
What makes your program special?
We selectively breed only the most thoroughly screened dogs according to the Golden Retriever Club of America’s Code of Ethics. Pairings are made ONLY when we firmly believe it will result in an improvement on the parents, even if this means the ideal stud for our goal is across the country. We go out of our way to do everything we possibly can to only produce the highest quality and most predictable dogs possible. We provide lifelong support for our puppies and their family’s. Though we heavily screen potential homes and only place puppies in the most reliable homes, we understand circumstances can change and we are willing to take back a puppy at ANY point in their life under ANY circumstances in order to prevent that puppy from entering an unscreened home or shelter if their new family can’t keep them or take care of them.
These puppies and their families mean the world to me, please contact me if you have ANY questions about me, my dogs, my program, or if you would like to inquire about joining our golden family, I am generally readily available and happy to talk dogs!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Kiwi
My first Golden and first show dog, Kiwi impresses me every day! Not only is she physically what a golden retriever should be with consistently healthy and ideal goldens behind her pedigree, but she by far has the most solid, reliable, and in general chill temperament. We have brought her all over the country to countless dog shows with hundreds of other dogs and people around, and she has yet to meet someone (dog or person) she doesn’t absolutely love. She is the exact same dog hanging out at home, watching fireworks, in a busy convention center, or at a horse show (my personal hobby lol). While she may be relaxed in any situation/environment you throw at her, she is ALWAYS down for a game of fetch, or going for a swim or run! She is ready to go at the drop of a hat!

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Lyons Golden Retrievers reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), Golden Retriever Type, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Golden Retriever Type, Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type 2, Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type 1, Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome (CMS), Labrador Retriever Type, DNA Disease Panel, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 5 (NCL5), Golden Retriever Type, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), PRA, Golden Retriever 2, PRA, Golden Retriever 1
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
