I'm Misty R., the breeder behind Misty's Toy Aussies located in Highland, MI. Misty’s Toy Aussies is a small home-based hobby breeding program which stems from our love and devotion to this wonderful breed. Our puppies are raised using the Puppy Culture Protocol. We strive for excellence in breeding and raising these precious little pups. Quality, temperament, beauty, and health are several key aspects of our breeding program. We aim to enhance these qualities with every litter that we are blessed with here at Misty’s Toy Aussies.
Q. & A. with Misty
Why did you start breeding?
In 2011 I met my husband who was born and raised in Queens. A year later we found ourselves on the beach in Turks and Caicos saying our vows. He really wanted to leave the city and move to my home state, and us both being fortunate enough to have jobs that allowed us to work from home, I agreed and we packed up and headed to Michigan. We bought a beautiful home on 10 acres and purchased our first Toy Aussie, Loki. We fell in love with him instantly and I immediately started to research the breed more in depth as it has always been a dream of mine to be a hobby breeder. Over time, we realized that we had a great deal to offer the Toy Aussie world. As a result, we decided to breed, top quality Toy Australian Shepherds. We located a mentor dedicated to the same principles and ethics as ours, who helped us start breeding these amazing dogs. Our Toy Australian Shepherd puppies are born and raised in our loving home in Southeast Michigan. We are about an hour North of Detroit.
What makes your program special?
I eventually made the hard decision to resign from my work-at-home job as our program grew so I could really put 100% into my dogs. My husband works from home (He is the Editor-of-Chief of over 16 magazines for a Publishing Company located in Nashville, TN). He is a tremendous help and a very big part of raising these babies. All of our dogs are considered to be part of our family. They live in our house, not a kennel. We have one 100 x 50 fenced in grassy area and a second one that is 50 x 50 that they love to spend hours running, playing, and jumping in and out of their kiddie pools! I spend a couple of hours per day with each puppy training and socializing them. They are pampered and 100% spoiled! They are nurtured from the moment they take their first breath until the very last second when they go to their fur-ever home. We fall in love with each and every one of them so I am very careful to select safe, loving homes for my puppies.
