Meet the breeder

I'm Cara H., the breeder behind Monarch Standard Poodles located in Swansboro, NC. The Standard Poodle has a graceful, medium-sized frame with a rounded skull, a long head and muzzle, dark oval eyes and wide, close-hanging ears. They have long legs that give them a springy step, docked tails (usually) and compact feet. The coat is sometimes curly and wiry, sometimes soft and wavy, and can be any solid color. Grooming styles include the “pet clip” (short all over), the “Continental clip” (the hindquarters shaved, half of the tail and the upper half of the legs) “English saddle clip” (same as the “Continental Clip” except the hindquarters are not shaved), the “Puppy Clip” (this is the clip seen on Poodles under a year old in the show ring), and the “Teddy Bear clip” (this is a hair cut that is long all over including the face resembling a cuddly teddy bear).

  • Why did you start breeding?

    As a teenager when I showed dogs in AKC conformation, I had the chance to work with other dog breeders. I believe that breeding purebred dogs is a way to preserve history and continue each breeds active legacy for the jobs they were created to do.

  • What makes your program special?

    We breed Standard Poodles with the purpose of creating healthy, well-balanced poodles with a pretty face that can thrive in any life scenario. Our Poodles are beautiful and functional!

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include apricot, cream, red, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and guardian homes.

Getting a puppy from Cara

Cara has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Cara partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

“We take great care in placing each puppy with the right family. Puppies are picked in waitlist order once they're old enough for us to evaluate their conformation, temperaments, and our vet has cleared them for purchase — typically around 7-8 weeks. ”

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 refundable deposit and between $1,500 - $2,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes 3 year health guarantee, AKC registration, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, tail docking, dew claw removal, and puppy socialization. $200 waitlist deposit which is refundable. An additional $300 deposit is due once the litter arrives. Total deposit is $500. If reserving a litter that is already born the full $500 deposit is due.”

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

    Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
