I'm Peggy and Walter A., the breeder behind MoonShadows Miniature Schnauzers located in Troy, PA. Our dogs excel both in and out of the show ring. They are excellent representations of the breed and have wonderful temperaments. We keep a variety of factors in mind when choosing dogs to breed including health, temperament, pedigree, and complementary traits, so that puppies can inherit the best of both parents.Located 4 hours west of NYC, one hour north of Scranton, PA, one hour south of Ithaca, NY and a hour east of Corning, NY, our location fits into most travel plans.
Our breeding dogs have earned their championship AKC titles and our male dog has earned his Bronze grand championship title, All puppies can be registered thru the AKC on a limited registration. We hope to have another litter early Spring 2025.
Q. & A. with Peggy and Walter
Why did you start breeding?
My husband and I both enjoy this breed, and want to see responsible breeding for these great dogs. Both sire and dam have been DNA health tested and OFA registered ,according to the standards set by the American Miniature Schnauzer Club.
What makes your program special?
We are not a large breeder, limited litters. Our dogs live with us, and occupy our couch when not showing.
Our current litter is from a top producer of this breeder, GCHB CH Shazzam of Oz Solar Storm, or Stormy. who has earned his grand champion Bronze from the AKC . He is a stunning dog, with a very laid back temperament. This will be a quality health tested litter- both mom and dad are OFA eye certified, DNA tested, PRA-b clean. Our dam Maisel, is a finished AKC champion who has earned her CGC abd two trick dog titles.. We breed the best with the best. next litter spring 2025,, they are here! Whelped April 24 2025, and one female is available.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are salt and pepper. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Peggy was nothing short of fantastic to work with. Her communication was high and she was consistently providing updates every step of the way from the momma’s heat cycle, ultrasounds, puppy development and experiences. You truly feel like you are a part of every step of the process with Peggy. She will ask you about your lifestyle, family, etc. and will pair the pup she feels fits you and/or your family the best. She did an absolutely amazing job pairing my family with our mini, Cassie!
The last point I would like to add is we have a Giant Schnauzer, Carmen who went through some medical complications following her spay. These complications overlapped to when we were supposed to pick up our mini, Cassie and Peggy went above and beyond to help us. She kept Cassie a few weeks longer to allow us to focus on Carmen and get her better without any hesitation or complaints. To me, this speaks volumes of Peggy’s character and love and care she puts into her pups. Thank you for everything, Peggy!

Peggy and Walter bred their puppies responsibly paying attention to temperament as well as breed standards. We got our little Ollie from them. He is a joy. He’s adorable and healthy. His personality is playful and confident. He is curious and not timid or shy. He loves new people. Peggy and Walt raised him and his siblings in their own home with love and care. Peggy posted updates throughout the pregnancy and through postpartum puppy growth and development. She was always available to answer questions too. Their service and quality of puppy was worth every cent! They’re excellent breeders and we had a wonderful experience. We highly recommend them.

Peggy & Walter were wonderful to work with! They are very knowledgeable about the breed and paired me with a beautiful, smart, healthy little girl! They asked a lot of questions to make sure that I was ready to have a puppy in my life again. It was so reassuring to have their support and advice even after we were home together.

I couldn't be happier with my little girl who was born at Moonshadows Miniature Schnauzers in Pennsylvania. I have so many positive things to say. From my very first conversation with Peggy I could tell how much she cared about raising quality, well behaved and socialized puppies in her home; but then she showed me this by keeping in touch on their progress so often. I also loved that she had adult schnauzers in the home and I think that has been a big positive for my Darby. Meeting Peggy and Walter when we picked up Darby was a real pleasure, they are really lovely people and their dedication to their schnauzers really shows. The communication Peggy provided was perfect. I received adorable pictures and video's often. I have also had some questions since picking Darby up (because it's been 15 years since we've had a puppy) and Peggy gets back to me right away. I must also mention how beautiful a dog Darby is...I have had 4 other mini's but Darby has that true schnauzer coat that two of mine did not. She really has a beautiful face and when something gets her attention she has that schnauzer stance and she's only 15 weeks old. She's smart, curious, playful and perfect. I saw all of the puppies due to Peggys video's, and they all were beautiful pups. Also, working through Good Dog was such a positive experience. The ability to search for quality breeders and the initial deposit and payment portal was so helpful. I would recommend it to anyone. I can't recommend Moonshadow's Miniature Schnauzers highly enough. We are so thrilled and are over the Moon(shadow) with our little one and would be happy to brag to anyone to let them know where Darby came from. Kathy and Chuck - New Jersey
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
