Q. & A. with Alyssa
Why did you start breeding?
I am a lifelong dog lover and owner, with a heart for Staffordshire Bull Terriers! My second Stafford, Darby had wonderful success in confirmation showing. Darby had her first litter in 2021; I kept a little girl and began showing Fanny in agility and nose work. I'm completely in love and obsessed with this breed and plan to keep breeding, showing, and promoting this outstanding breed.
What makes your program special?
I feel extremely fortunate that my partners Dana and Jenny Merritt (Trugrip Staffords) have been breeding, showing, successfully placing, and having fun with Staffords for 50 years with 155 Champions to their credit. I am the direct beneficiary of their depth of knowledge and expertise. We are committed together to continue to elevate the breed standard and are devoted to this clever, smart, funny, and courageous breed who loves their people.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include brindle and white, brindle, red, and red and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Good level
Moonspinner Staffords reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
