Q. & A. with Alyssa

  • Why did you start breeding?

Getting into breeding wasn’t just about producing puppies; it was about honoring a transformation. My journey began with the realization that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a living testament to evolution—a breed that successfully moved from a "fierce historical shadow" into the light as a devoted family guardian. I was captivated by the duality of the Stafford: their rugged, muscular history contrasted with their modern reputation as "nanny dogs" known for their unwavering affection. This mirrors the legend of the Moon Spinners, who take the raw, cold glow of the night and weave it into something warm, soft, and guiding. At Moonspinner Staffords, my goal is to act as a steward of that same "timeless rhythm." I entered the world of breeding to ensure this delicate balance is preserved. To breed a Stafford is to be a weaver of traits—meticulously selecting for health, temperament, and the signature "smile" that defines the breed. Just as the spirits in folklore guide the lunar cycle from darkness back into light, I am driven to guide the future of this breed away from historical misconceptions and toward a future where their true, light-filled nature is celebrated.
  • What makes your program special?

Choosing to breed under the Moonspinner name represents a commitment to this "milk-white" standard of excellence. It’s about the quiet, late-night dedication required to raise a litter and the responsibility of placing a piece of that "lunar glow" into the homes of families. I didn't just want to keep the breed going; I wanted to be part of the cycle that ensures the Staffordshire Bull Terrier remains England’s most beloved guardian, refined by careful hands and inspired by a legacy that is as enduring as the moon itself.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include brindle and white, brindle, red, and red and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
