Q. & A. with Kimberly
Why did you start breeding?
I got into dog breeding when I got my very first AKC registered Golden Retriever and started taking classes with her and realized how smart and beautiful she was. I just knew that I wanted her to have puppies so that I could share them with somebody. Then I found a mentor and learned all about the puppy culture method, which is an intense training program that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I love everything about breeding, from finding the right mates, to giving the puppies stimulation and enrichment and socialization. To finding the right forever home.
What makes your program special?
At Mount Hood Golden Retrievers we focus on excellent health and temperament . We also use a training method called Puppy Culture
where you offer certain stimuli, and training and problem solving exercises at specific times of their development. It all starts when they are just three days old! At three days old, we start early neurological stimulation and early scent introduction, which opens their neuropathways and actually makes their brain bigger. When they are three weeks old, their brains are like little sponges, and they learn in just minutes what it will take a twelve week old puppy weeks to learn. We get them used to loud noises before their brain has developed a fear response. So they will be unafraid of loud noises. We play games
with food that teaches them problem solving, they are trained with positive reinforcement how to sit instead of jumping when greeting new people. The house breaking will start as soon as they start pottying on their own. They will first be litterbox, trained, and from there they will follow the other dogs outside to go potty, so they will be well on their way to being house broken. And of course, they will be socialized with all of my grandchildren and the neighborhood children and people of various appearances. You will end up with a puppy who is intelligent and healthy and love's everybody!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?

Kimberly was fast responding to my inquiry about Pumpkin! We met the next day and fell in love with a little puppy boy. Kim was very knowledgeable about the breed and how to take care of the puppy. She allowed us to visit our future puppy every week and play with him. She answered all our questions at the visits and also by texting and phone conversations. Kim spent all her time with puppies: taking care of them, teaching them potty training outside and training by names, commands: Come and Sit. All puppies went to vet clinic for the first wellness checkup and vaccines. We were able to attend that visit. Puppies are healthy, well fed and happy. Good dog guidance was easy to follow and make secure payment. No problems at all! We love our new puppy! Thanks to Kimberly, mama Piper and dad Rufus! Gratitude to Good Dog as well!
