I'm Shana C., the breeder behind Mountain Top located in Viper, KY. Our dogs are bred with health and temperament in mind as well as striving for the AKC and UKC standards. We socialize our puppies and use the Puppy Culture program. When you choose one of our pups you are part of our Mountain Top family and we want to keep in touch and provide assistance for the life of the dog.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I fell in love with the breeds and then when I retired from teaching I began to breed Russell Terriers and then beagles.

  • What makes your program special?

    We believe in keeping the health and temperament as the most important priorities but also remember the happiness of our dogs. We live in a rural area that allows them to have the freedom to hunt and run. We socialize them and train our puppies with the Puppy Culture Program.

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our Beagle puppies include 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Beagle puppies include brown and white, lemon and white, red and white, brown white and tan, black white and tan, and blue tan and white. Russell Terrier puppies include tri-color, white, white and tan, and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Shana

Puppy prices include a $250 non-refundable deposit and between $1,000 - $1,750 final payment, before taxes & fees.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    We had an excellent experience working with Mountain Top Kennel. All through out the process, they were responsive and very easy to work with. They sent us plenty of pictures and videos in the weeks leading up to our pickup date and always answered our questions promptly. But more importantly perhaps than all of that, we got an excellent dog. Our new Russell Terrier, Hobie, acclimated very quickly to his new home.     Our experience with Shana at Mountain Top was wonderful. She was super helpful and responsive answering all of our questions. She sent videos and pictures all along the way. We really felt we got to know our pup before we picked her up. Pick up was easy and seamless. It was great to get to know Shana.     We recently purchased two puppies Jack Russell Terriers from Shana of Mountain Top JRTs and Beagles in Kentucky. Our puppies arrived at SeaTac airport in Washington via a lovely Flight Nanny, Kay. Both are in perfect health and very happy puppies. Shana was wonderful to work with from the get go. This was our first time buying dogs via the internet. She was very communicative, supplied lots of pictures and videos of the puppies we were interested in, and held our hands through the whole process. We felt like we knew the puppies before they even arrived. Whole process was professional but very personal. We feel like we have a friend for life not only with our two puppies but with Shana.
