I'm Shana C., the breeder behind Mountain Top located in Viper, KY. Our dogs are bred with health and temperament in mind as well as striving for the AKC and UKC standards. We socialize our puppies and use the Puppy Culture program. When you choose one of our pups you are part of our Mountain Top family and we want to keep in touch and provide assistance for the life of the dog.

Why did you start breeding?
I fell in love with the breeds and then when I retired from teaching I began to breed Russell Terriers and then beagles.What makes your program special?
We believe in keeping the health and temperament as the most important priorities but also remember the happiness of our dogs. We live in a rural area that allows them to have the freedom to hunt and run. We socialize them and train our puppies with the Puppy Culture Program.What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Beagle puppies include 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Russell Terrier puppies include tri-color, white, white and tan, and white and black. Beagle puppies include brown and white, lemon and white, red and white, brown white and tan, black white and tan, and blue tan and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Shana
Shana has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
Shana partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape.
“We generally place our puppies around 4 weeks old unless being considered for a show quality dog or bitch. Then we will hold for 10-12 weeks. I as a breeder will always have the first option of puppy ”
Price
“Deposits are non refundable but will be taken off the final price and used for a future litter. Deposits are non refundable but will be taken off the final price If a puppy is taken from the litter the deposit is paid for then the deposit will go toward the next available litter.”

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

We recently lost our beagle and needed a new puppy, so we started searching online for a new one. We saw our new puppy on Good Dog and we were so excited when our application was approved. Our application was reviewed and accepted quickly and our communication went without complications. Mrs. Shana sent us photos and videos of our puppy and we had a video call before the pick up date too. When we visited to pick up our puppy, the kennel was clean and well maintained. Shana is a very knowledgeable and friendly breeder. She kept me informed throughout the process of adopting Yellow aka Pixie. We had an excellent experience working with Mountain Top Kennel. All through out the process, they were responsive and very easy to work with. They sent us plenty of pictures and videos in the weeks leading up to our pickup date and always answered our questions promptly. But more importantly perhaps than all of that, we got an excellent dog. Our new Russell Terrier, Hobie, acclimated very quickly to his new home. It's obvious he was well socialized and cared for from right away. No surprise as it's clear they have quality facilities and are ethical breeders. It's obvious by the dog's confidence that he was brought into a world of love and quality care. I would recommend Mountain Top Kennel to anyone looking for a great dog.
