🐾 PUPDATE #5 ❤️ PLEASE READ ALL UPDATES ❤️ Hello, Families! I’ve been getting quite a few questions lately that were already covered in previous PUPDATEs. These updates are full of important information that will truly help both you and your new puppy as they transition home and settle in successfully. I strongly encourage everyone to read them carefully. It’s hard to believe these puppies are almost ready to go home! They are growing beautifully and all have wonderful, fun-loving temperaments. We socialize with them daily and consistently expose them to new sights, sounds, and experiences using Puppy Culture techniques developed by Jane Killion. This helps ensure you are bringing home a confident, happy, and well-adjusted puppy who is ready to join your forever family very soon. ⸻ 🦴 Protecting Your Puppy’s Hips – Important Information Did you know that current research suggests hip dysplasia is influenced more by environment than genetics? While your puppy is here, I take every precaution to protect their developing joints: • Puppies are never on slick or slippery surfaces • Toys are chosen carefully so they can’t be climbed on or fallen from • They are fed a high-quality diet • Exercise is appropriate and controlled Here’s how you can continue protecting your puppy’s hips at home: 1. Walks Follow the 5-minute rule: 5 minutes of walking per month of age per day. • Example: At 2 months old → no more than 10 minutes total per day Puppies do not need long walks or vigorous exercise. 2. Running • No running or jogging on leash until your dog is 2 years old • Free play in the yard is perfectly fine 3. Stairs • No stair climbing during the first year • If you have stairs, carry your puppy or limit access to one level 4. Jumping • Avoid encouraging jumping until your puppy has finished growing • Pick them up onto couches or beds, and do not allow jumping down 5. Diet & Growth • Slow, steady growth is best • Keep your puppy lean with a visible waist • Rapid growth can negatively impact joint development • Discuss feeding and weight with your veterinarian if you’re unsure 6. Hormones & Spay/Neuter Timing Early spay/neuter was once common, but new research shows hormones play an important role in long-term joint and overall health. • Early neutering has been linked to increased rates of hip dysplasia • One study in Golden Retrievers showed double the incidence in males neutered early All puppies are sold with a strict spay/neuter agreement, however waiting until your puppy is fully physically mature may significantly benefit joint development. This is why I—along with many veterinarians—recommend delaying spay/neuter until maturity unless medically necessary. ⸻ ✂️ Grooming – Start Early for Success One of the most common questions I receive is: “When should I start grooming my puppy?” ✅ Answer: Once your puppy’s immunizations are complete, they should begin regular professional grooming (salon or mobile). ⚠️ Important: This does NOT mean cutting their hair. Early grooming is about: • Getting your puppy used to being handled • Professional bathing • Nail trims • Exposure to grooming tools • HV dryers (much stronger than home dryers) Your puppy should visit the groomer every 6–8 weeks to maintain familiarity and comfort. 👉 Bathing at home does not replace professional grooming. Groomers use specialized equipment and techniques that are crucial for early desensitization. Starting grooming early: • Reduces stress for your puppy • Makes appointments easier for you • Makes the process safer and easier for your groomer Waiting too long can result in: • Fear and anxiety • Resistance to grooming • Severe matting (which often requires shaving) At Home: • Brush your puppy daily • Gently handle feet, ears, and face during calm moments • This prevents matting and helps your puppy stay comfortable with touch Your groomer will truly thank you later! Recommended Brush: Large Firm Slicker Brush & Pet Comb Kit 👉 https://a.co/d/0b8MqKs ⸻ 🚨 REQUIRED VIDEO – PLEASE WATCH 🚨 ‼️ Please watch this video first on your own, then again as a family. It is extremely important and helpful—even for the most gentle breeds. 🎥 This is a MUST for all my families: 👉 https://www.thefamilydog.com/stop-the-77 ⸻ Thank you all so much for reading and for being such wonderful puppy families. These steps make a huge difference in raising happy, healthy dogs—and I truly appreciate your commitment 💛🐶

4 weeks old today! I will also be sending individual photos of each puppy to their assigned family later today. 🐾 🐾 PUPDATE #4 The big day you’ve been waiting for is almost here! I’m so excited to share that these sweet puppies have absolutely marvelous temperaments and have done wonderfully with their Puppy Culture training. You truly have something special coming home very soon! ⸻ 🌎 SOCIALIZATION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY I want to take a moment to talk about socialization, because it is one of the most important things you will do for your puppy. PLEASE socialize your dog. Follow the guidance provided in the Puppy Culture DVDs, and enroll in a puppy training class as soon as your veterinarian clears you to do so. Get together early and often with friends, family, and neighbors who have fully immunized adult dogs. 🚨 The first few weeks are CRITICAL for socialization and will shape your puppy’s confidence and behavior for life. Here’s a great article explaining why socialization matters so much: 👉 https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/training/puppy-socialization/ Looking for places to take your pup? This website (and app!) allows you to search dog-friendly restaurants, hotels, and events by zip code: 👉 http://www.bringfido.com/ Get your puppy out and about safely and often! ⸻ 👜 GO-HOME BAGS & FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS 🍽️ Feeding Your Puppy Please be sure to have food on hand before pickup day if you haven’t ordered yet. • Puppies are currently eating 3 meals per day • About ¾ cup per meal • As your puppy grows, gradually increase food based on the feeding guide on the bag • Always start on the low end and slowly increase 💩 If stools become soft, slightly reduce the amount until things firm back up. ⸻ 🧳 Pickup Day Reminders Your puppy will go home with: • A binder of important information • A go-home goodie bag • Vet records and paperwork • Training treats • Deworming medication (explained below) If you have a longer drive: • Bring towels and fresh water • You may want to bring an extra person to help Your puppy will potty before leaving. I recommend not stopping for potty breaks on the way home—this helps reduce exposure to illness before your puppy is fully vaccinated. ⸻ 💧 WATER INTAKE – VERY IMPORTANT How much water should your puppy have? Young puppies typically need about ½ cup of water every 2 hours. At this age, puppies can’t always distinguish between hunger and thirst, which can lead to over-drinking if water is left out constantly. Overconsumption of water can: • Affect appetite and digestion • Make potty training much more difficult My recommendation: • Offer water every 2–3 hours • Remove water no later than 2 hours before bedtime • Continue this routine until your puppy is fully house trained ⸻ 📝 Helpful Resource for New Families This checklist is full of great information and helpful tips: 👉 https://be.chewy.com/new-dog-product-checklist-for-every-life-stage/ ⸻ 😵 THE DREADED HOOKWORM 😵 This is a topic briefly covered in the health contract, but I want to explain it more thoroughly. I take every precaution possible to ensure puppies are sent home 100% parasite-free. However, hookworms and coccidia are unfortunately every breeder’s worst nightmare. Here’s why: • Puppies are dewormed one week before their 7-week vet visit • Fecal tests often come back clear • HOWEVER, hookworms have a 2-week life cycle This means eggs can hatch after the vet visit but before puppies go home. Because of this possibility, each puppy is sent home with deworming medication to be given during their first three days at home as a preventative measure. This is standard practice and an extra layer of protection for your puppy. ⸻ 🦠 PROBIOTICS – PLEASE DON’T SKIP THIS Last but definitely not least: probiotic supplements. I cannot stress enough how important these are—especially during transitions, deworming, and diet changes. ‼️ PLEASE order these before your puppy comes home ‼️ Purina FortiFlora Probiotic for Dogs 👉 https://a.co/d/3LsjfV6 ⸻ Thank you so much for reading through this update. You are doing all the right things to set your puppy up for a happy, healthy, and confident life, and I’m so grateful to be part of this journey with you 🐶💛

🐾 Week 3 PUPDATE 🐾 Hello, Families! This week’s topics are extremely important, and I truly hope you take the time to read through all of the information carefully. These decisions play a big role in your puppy’s long-term health and success. ⸻ 🦟 HEARTWORM & FLEA PREVENTION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Your puppy will need to be on a monthly heartworm preventative once your veterinarian feels it is appropriate. Many veterinarians recommend oral combination medications such as: • Trifexis • Comfortis • NexGard • ComboGard • Similar oral flea/heartworm preventatives ⚠️ I do NOT recommend these products. In my experience—and the experience of many breeders—these medications have been linked to serious adverse reactions, including: • Seizures • Neurological episodes • Lameness • In rare cases, death Because of this risk, many breeders (including myself) now include language in our contracts stating that the use of certain oral flea preventatives—even once—may void the health warranty. 🚫 PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE PRODUCTS. ⸻ ✅ The ONLY Oral Product I Trust ‼️ The one and only oral preventative I have researched extensively and feel comfortable recommending is: SIMPARICA TRIO ‼️ If you would like to better understand why I strongly discourage other oral flea medications that contain pesticides, please read the following article and also search: “adverse reactions to Trifexis” (or similar products) Helpful article: 👉 http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/blog/-20898-1.html If you ever have questions about products before purchasing or administering them, please message me first. I’m always happy to help guide you. ⸻ 🎓 RECOMMENDED TRAINING – SETTING YOU UP FOR SUCCESS As discussed in previous updates, I strongly recommend that all families purchase and watch the Puppy Culture DVDs (or streaming version) before bringing their puppy home. This program will: • Prepare you for puppy ownership • Help you understand the training your puppy has already received here • Give you tools to continue training before full vaccinations and before group puppy classes are safe You’ll be confident, prepared, and on the same page as your puppy from day one. ⸻ 🍽️ FOOD & NUTRITION Current Feeding Program: For Golden Retrievers: • Wellness Large Breed Puppy (yellow & blue bag) For Cocker Spaniels & Doodles: • Purina pro plan puppy lamb and rice OR • Diamond Naturals Small/Medium Breed Puppy Both are excellent, high-quality options and are highly recommended. ⸻ 🐟 Supplements I currently add: • Salmon oil • A probiotic These are fantastic for: • Skin and coat health • Digestive support • Overall wellness You can use: • Liquid form poured over food (what I use) • Treat form I will be sending some home with you. It is completely up to you whether you continue these supplements or transition to something else. ⚠️ I do recommend: • Avoiding grain-free diets • Avoiding foods with chicken by-product ⸻ That’s all for this week! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or shopping concerns—I’m happy to help however I can. ⸻ 📚 One Last Resource This is an excellent article that I believe will be very helpful for all new puppy families: 👉 https://be.chewy.com/training-training- ⸻ Have a wonderful week, and thank you all for being so invested in your puppies and their futures 💛🐾

🐾 2-Week PUPDATE Hello, Families! Our sweet pups are really coming along beautifully! Their eyes are beginning to open, they’re learning how to navigate their little world, and we’re already starting to see their individual personalities shine through. This is such a fun stage of development! As mentioned in an earlier message, I’ll be sending out weekly PUPDATEs filled with helpful information to prepare you for welcoming your new puppy home. ⸻ 🏡 Preparing Your Home (and Yourselves!) Over the next few weeks, you’ll want to begin: • Puppy-proofing your home • Making sure your yard and fencing are secure • Brushing up on your puppy training knowledge This is also the PERFECT time to refresh your puppy training skills. Many puppies unfortunately end up in shelters and rescues due to a lack of proper training and guidance at home. In fact, this is the number one reason dogs are surrendered. At MyKy Puppies, we do everything in our power to help prevent this from happening to your puppy. ⸻ 🧠 Puppy Culture & Early Training We start with: • Excellent genetics • Thoughtfully matched temperaments But we don’t stop there. After extensive research, we found a program that truly sets puppies and families up for success. Our puppies are raised using Puppy Culture protocols, which include: • Manding (automatically sitting when approaching people) • Resource-guarding prevention • Biosensory exercises beginning at just 3 days old Puppy Culture was developed by top professionals in the dog training world and is dedicated to producing stable, mentally sound dogs. 👉 We HIGHLY recommend that all families learn about Puppy Culture and positive-reinforcement training before their puppy comes home. Now is a great time to purchase the DVD or streaming version and watch it together as a family. This gives your puppy an incredible head start in life and training! ⸻ 🚽 Potty Training – Important Guidance I do NOT recommend pee-pee pads, as they encourage puppies to potty inside the home. While here at MyKy Puppies, the puppies are litter trained. Once home, I recommend: • Choosing a designated potty spot in your yard • Taking your puppy outside frequently to that same area Using pads or litter boxes long-term can send mixed signals and often complicates potty training as puppies grow. I’ll be sending you home with a potty training booklet, and many families tell me their puppies are fully potty trained within two weeks. Consistency and patience are key—you’ll be amazed how quickly they catch on! ⸻ 🧸 Must-Have Comfort Item ‼️ Many families have shared that the SmartPetLove Snuggle Puppy works wonders for soothing puppies during their first few nights at home. If you’d like to bring one with you on pickup day, I’m happy to run it with Mama and littermates beforehand for extra comfort. ⸻ 🦮 Leashes, Collars & Harnesses • A 4–6 ft leash is ideal • Leashes with traffic handles can be helpful later on • I do not recommend leaving a collar on your puppy, as it can get caught and become dangerous • I highly recommend a harness, especially one that clips in the front to discourage pulling • Harnesses that clip on top tend to encourage pulling ⸻ 🧸 Toys & Enrichment Recommended items: • Puppy-size Kongs • Balls (various sizes) • Fetch toys • Plush toys • Soft training treats • Dog-safe peanut butter (for Kongs) Greek yogurt works wonderfully in Kongs as well! I recommend stuffing two Kongs, freezing them, and using them: • During quiet crate time • When you leave the house • At bedtime Frozen Kongs are soothing, mentally stimulating, and great for gut health when made with safe fruits and veggies. 👉 Healthy Kong recipe ideas: https://www.puppyleaks.com/healthy-foods-you-can-stuff-in-a-kong/ ⸻ 🍽️ Food We’ll go over food, supplements, and treats in detail next week, so stay tuned! ⸻ 🏠 Crate Sizing Recommendations • Golden Retrievers: 42-inch crate • Mini/Medium Doodles, Cockapoos, Cocker Spaniels: 36-inch crate I highly recommend crates that include a divider, allowing you to expand the space as your puppy grows. Hey Puppy Families! 🐾💛 I know our official two-week PUPDATES weren’t scheduled to start until tomorrow or Monday. I normally don’t send updates on weekends because those days are typically reserved for pick-ups and family time. Just as a reminder, PUPDATES usually go out Monday through Friday — and occasionally on a Sunday if we’re home from church and I have a little extra time. Since I’m feeling a little under the weather today, I decided to go ahead and get them sent out for the week so everyone can enjoy their sweet baby update a little early. 💕 So without further ado… here is your two-week PUPDATE! 🐶✨ 🐾 2-Week PUPDATE Hello, Families! 2 week Pupdate Hello Families! Our sweet pups are really coming along nicely. Eyes are starting to open, and they are all starting to learn to navigate their way around! We are really starting to see their individual personalities shine forth! As I mentioned in an earlier text, every week I will be sending you helpful information in preparation for your new addition to your family! You will want to spend the next few weeks getting your house puppy proofed and of course your yard and fencing ready to receive your new bundle of joy and energy! This is also the PERFECT time to brush up on your puppy training skills! Remember that there are many puppies brought into homes whose owners lack the skill and knowledge to properly train them and it ends in disaster! In fact, did you know that the number one reason dogs end up in shelters and rescues is lack of proper training intervention at home?! At MyKy Puppies we are doing everything in our power to prevent this from happening to YOU! Starting with the best of the best genetics and temperament, we have also taken further steps to ensure your success. After searching far and wide for a program that would ensure your puppy training success ~ we finally found it! Our puppies are now raised using Puppy Culture’s protocols which include manding (immediately sitting when approaching you), resource guarding prevention and biosensory exercises starting when your puppy is only 3-days old! This popular puppy training course has been developed by top professionals and experienced dog trainers in the industry. Puppy Culture is dedicated to raising stable, mentally sound dogs. This is why BEFORE your puppy comes home to you, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT ALL of our puppy families learn about Puppy Culture and the benefits of positive reinforcement training. With this revolutionary program, you are giving your puppy a great big head start in life and with his/her training schedule! Now is a great time to purchase your copy of the DVD! (they also have a streaming version you can purchase) and watch it with the whole family. Just a few things I'd like to mention: I DO NOT recommend pee-pee pads...it only encourages the pup to potty in the house. As you might know, the puppies have been litter trained while here at MyKy Puppies. At home, try to encourage your pup to go to the same spot in the yard to do his/her business. The idea is to find the place in your yard that you want to be your "potty spot". This should aid in your potty training efforts. As they grow, getting them to go on a pad or in a litter box will not be such an easy task and will send mixed messages in my opinion. So start off on the right foot by avoiding pee pads and litters boxes, etc in your home and take your pup outside, frequently, to do his or her business. I will send you home with a potty training booklet and most families tell me their puppies are potty trained within 2 weeks of having their puppy. So be consistent and patient and your pup will be potty trained before you know it. ‼️I’ve had numerous families tell me that the SmartPetLove Snuggle Puppy worked wonders to help soothe their puppy the first few nights their pup was home. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out and purchase one to bring with you when you come pick up your puppy and I can run it on Mama and littermates as well.‼️ Leashes: There are many options on leashes. Leashes with traffic handles are also great to assist in keeping your dog close – but they are often more helpful after the puppy has grown up a bit. A 4-6ft leash is recommended. I don't recommend you leave a collar on your puppy. It can easily get caught on something and can be catastrophic if this happens when you are not home. If you choose to use a harness,(which I highly recommend) get one that clips in the front to avoid pulling. The ones that clip on top only encourage pulling. Toys: I recommend toys such as Kongs (puppy size), Balls (various sizes), fetch toys, plush toys, soft training treats, and a container of peanut butter (marked for dogs only, for your Kong). Yogurt works great in the Kong as well. Here’s a great website filled with healthy Kong recipes. My recommendation is to stuff 2 Kongs and freeze them. Offer one to your puppy when he/she is having quiet crate time, when you need to leave for a few hours and at night time. Using plain Greek yogurt mixed with other safe fruits and veggies are not only yummy for your puppy, but it’s great for their gut health. https://www.puppyleaks.com/healthy-foods-you-can-stuff-in-a-kong/ Food: We will discuss food, supplements and treats in depth next week :) Crate size: For Golden Retrievers, I recommend 42 inch crate. For medium/mini doodles, cocker spaniels and Cockapoo’s I recommend the 36 inch crate .I Also suggest the crates that come with the divider so you can start off smaller and give them more room as they grow. https://be.chewy.com/how-to-crate-train-a-puppy-a-step-by-step-guide-from-an-expert/?gbraid=0AAAAADmQ2V1DpJiAt7ua96YwqZsN4hf8F&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtbqdBhDvARIsAGYnXBPZ0ZiTuvVeeY64nIhKg5yHeUb81uFjDhpcn4gB47QxggjfIq4quWEaAizlEALw_wcB One last thing! Tara was absolutely wonderful! You can see she is truly called to her profession and cherishes and nurtures her animals so well. When we were able to meet our puppy, my husband and I could instantly see that he was very well-loved and well-taken care of! We are so blessed and excited to have a new addition to our family. Our puppy was an answered prayer and Tara was outstanding! We have already referred Tara to several family members and friends!

We have only had Bacchus for 48 hours, but we are already so impressed with both him and Tara. From the moment we brought him home, it was clear how much care and effort went into raising him. Bacchus is practically house-trained—he hasn’t had a single accident—and he sleeps great in his kennel. He adjusted to our home immediately and has such a wonderful temperament. He’s playful, social, and cheerful, yet calm, gentle, and well-balanced. Nothing seems to startle him, and he has the sweetest, easygoing spirit. Tara has been amazing to work with—very responsive and quick to answer any of our questions both before and after bringing him home. The updates and information she provided ahead of time were incredibly helpful and made his transition seamless. We are so grateful and would highly recommend Tara to anyone looking for a well-loved, well-prepared puppy.
