Meet the breeder

I'm Megan, the breeder behind Naranjo Hills Farm located in Tracy, CA. We breed working livestock guardian dogs registered with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America. We take great pride in our program. We are passionate about Maremma Sheepdogs and look forward to sharing the breed with others who love it just as much as we do! Q. & A. with Megan

  • Why did you start breeding?

We purchased our first Maremma in summer 2019 after starting to lose our free-range chickens to a persistent fox family and hawks. Unfortunately, our first Maremma ended up being diagnosed at 1 year old with moderate hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis. This fostered a desire to breed better livestock guardians that were not crippled in pain or reliant on pain relievers for the duration of their lives. Our original Maremma was neutered, and we have since added two structurally sound and registered Maremmas- dam Eureka Sammie June and sire Benson Ranch Giovane (pronounced Jo-va-nay). Both have been hip tested with passing scores. With our 3 Maremmas out patrolling 24/7, we have yet to lose another chicken to predators. They also keep our potbellied pigs, goats, cows, and barn cats safe. Our neighbors frequently post on Nextdoor about foxes and coyotes out and about, taking small pets, but we haven't seen a single one over the last year of owning our wonderful Maremmas!
  • What makes your program special?

All puppies have PennHIP completed at 16 weeks to guarantee they do not have early-onset hip dysplasia. We are dedicated to breeding healthy and happy pups.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
