Meet the breeder

I'm Marsha A., the breeder behind North Star Gem’s Prague Ratters located in Seward, AK. Our breeding program started with one small litter that turned into a fulfilling, lifelong passion! We believe there’s no greater joy than providing families with companions that share unconditional love no matter what.

Q. & A. with Marsha

  • Why did you start breeding?

In the mid 90's i rescued a Miniature Pincher and she became the love of our life for 17 years! This is where our relationship with Prague Ratters begins. While searching for a new pup we came across the rare breed of Prague Ratters. Our first two arrived in October of 2018! I can honestly say that these are the best, healthiest, smartest and most entertaining dogs we have ever owned.
  • What makes your program special?

Our Prague Ratters are raised in our home. They are family members first. We are very meticulous about cleanliness and good health. We feel those two go hand in hand. We handle our dogs often as do my granddaughters. Socialization is of high priority. I am a small breeding program and believe it is essential to stay small to provide the best life and care for our dogs. Our dogs go everywhere with us, to the store, out of town shopping, sporting events, camping, travel by land or air. They are family. All of our four legged fur children enjoy the benefits of a premium diet, including fresh food, excellent health care, obedience training and lots of fun family outings. We commit to strong healthy breeding practices to maintain the breed standard.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies include long and short coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include yellow recessive color, brown and tan, red, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I had a wonderful experience working with Marsha. From the very beginning, she was incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and caring. It’s clear she has a deep love for her dogs and is committed to raising healthy, well-socialized puppies. Marsha kept me updated with photos and information throughout the process, and she was always available to answer any questions I had. When it came time to bring my puppy home, everything was well organized and professional. My new pup is happy, healthy, and has an amazing temperament – a testament to the love and care Marsha puts into her breeding program. If you’re looking for a responsible, trustworthy breeder who truly prioritizes the well-being of her dogs, I highly recommend Marsha.

Marsha was amazing and patient with me. She let me adopt Laddie one of her breeding males. He has been nothing but amazing with me. We have bonded so quickly. It's like we have always been together. She has been nothing but truthful and kind during this whole adoption process. I couldn't thank her more. I absolutely love Laddie and decided to keep his name.
