I'm Martha M., the breeder behind Old Orchard Maremmas located in Swanton, OH. Our dogs are registered, working Maremmas from health tested lines, and bred by the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America code of ethics.
Our puppies are born in our barn and grow up there where they can safely see, smell and get acquainted with all kinds of poultry and livestock. When they are 9 weeks old, they are pasturing with our sheep and goats. In addition to livestock exposure, our puppies are handled every day. They are started as working livestock guardian dogs, and loving family dogs, accustomed to children, and other dogs as well. They will be vaccinated, vet checked and microchipped before going to their new homes.
Q. & A. with Martha
What makes your program special?
Our breeding program is founded on two great dogs, our Male is directly from Italian lines, and our female, from established working bloodlines here in the states. Since we only have two dogs, they get the very best of care and we also do our best to pay attention to detail! We also have many different kinds of livestock to start puppies out on, so they can get used to whatever they need to for their new job at your farm.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

Martha was great to deal with. She responded promptly to all messages. I would highly recommend Old Orchard Maremmas and Martha. She transported the puppy a long distance to meet me. Not only did I receive a beautiful puppy, she also provided some puppy food and water for my travel home. Gus, our puppy is an amazing puppy and I would consider buying another puppy from her at later date.
Thank you Martha!

We are so excited to be welcoming our new puppy, Bugsly, in just a couple of weeks! Working with Martha has been a wonderful experience from the very beginning. She has been excellent with communication, always quick to respond, and consistently sharing updates on the puppies’ progress throughout the entire process. This made us feel confident and connected every step of the way. We are so grateful for her dedication and care, and we can’t wait to meet Bugsly soon! Thank you, Martha!

Martha was so wonderful to work with in purchasing our Pup Ozzie! Martha kept in contact with me and answered any questions I had! When I visited her farm you could see her love for her dogs and all of her farm animals! Ozzie is a beautiful dog and quite familiar with other animals. We are working with him and it doesn’t take long for him to understand! We loved working with Martha and will continue to purchase our maremmas with her!
