I am so very grateful to Mary and her family at Painter's Precious Poodles for helping me find the best little puppy ever. I first reached out to Mary on February 6th to inquire about a male cream standard poodle puppy she had available. I had recently lost my beautiful standard poodle, MoonCake. He was the first dog I ever owned, and nothing in my life felt quite right with the poodle-shaped hole he left in my heart. Mary got back to me very quickly, and we talked on the phone that same night. She was very straightforward and answered all of my questions. It was important to me to find a puppy with DNA and OFA-tested parents, and Mary was happy to share the testing results with me. Mary was also very open about the health and structure of her lines, which gave me a lot of confidence that she is thoughtfully breeding for sound, healthy dogs. I also wanted a standard poodle with the right temperament for my home and lifestyle. Mary was able to tell me about the temperament of her dogs and past puppies, and she shared a bit about their background in therapy work. As a dog groomer, it is also very important to me that any puppy I purchase has basic introductions to grooming, especially with a breed like a standard poodle. Mary confirmed that the puppies had been getting practice with bathing, as well as face, feet, and sanitary trims. I was also looking for a puppy with dewclaw removal and proper tail docking, which Mary confirmed was done at the appropriate age. I also prefer to work with breeders who ask to be kept informed about their puppies after they go to their new homes and who take an interest in making sure they are doing well. Mary did ask me to keep her updated and send follow-up pictures, especially around birthdays. When I asked about transportation options, Mary had a few available, including delivering the puppy to me the following weekend. The transportation charge was more than reasonable, and I decided that very night that I wanted to purchase the puppy from Mary. On Friday, February 13th, just one day after my birthday, my new puppy arrived. I named him ThunderCat. He is the cutest, sweetest little guy ever. He just melts my heart and makes me so happy. He was a little nervous at first, which is to be expected, but it only took about a day before he understood that he was home. He is playful and energetic, affectionate, and loves his new doggy brothers and sisters. He is also slowly learning to adapt to having cats around. He is very smart and is learning all kinds of things very quickly. I can tell that Mary did a great job with his early socialization, especially with handling his feet. He is already a little pro at having his nails done. The main reason I waited a few weeks to write this review is that I wanted to wait until after his vet checkup and third round of shots. He arrived with his first two rounds already completed, as well as deworming, and Mary inserted his microchip herself upon arrival. ThunderCat has now been checked by our vet, who had all wonderful things to say. He told me that ThunderCat has great structure, excellent knees, and a correct bite. ThunderCat is in excellent health and is adjusting perfectly to his new home. Sweet little ThunderCat is already helping me heal, and showing me that it’s okay to love again, even after loss. I love him with all my heart. I am so happy that I found Painter's Precious Poodles and such a perfect little puppy.
