I'm Kate K., the breeder behind Pickerel Pups located in Detroit Lakes, MN. We are a small, family-run breeding program focusing on quality care and good health. Our puppies are raised with Puppy Culture! ENS/ESI. Our parents all have normal - excellent hips via OFA’s and/or Pennhip. Embark packages!

Why did you start breeding?
We both come from dog breeding families, so opening up our own “Pickerel Pups” was natural for us. Dogs have been a part of both of our lives since the beginning. Craig's Mother is a dog breeder, as was Kate's Grandmother. We knew once we had the space, we wanted to share our love of dogs with others.What makes your program special?
We believe healthy puppies come from healthy parents. Our parents are genetically clear via Embark, and have. Clear hips via OFA and/or Pennhip.What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are standard size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Getting a puppy from Kate
Kate has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.
Price
Puppy prices include a $200 non-refundable deposit and between $1,600 - $2,800 final payment, before taxes & fees.
“This price includes a 1 YEAR HEALTH GUARANTEE, an Embark package, deworming, vet check, up to date vaccinations, puppy culture training, AKC registration if applicable and more. Parents have also had the same testing and have clear embark and OFA's/PennHip. Deposits will be applied to balance of puppy.”
Contract & health guarantee
Kate may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Claude is the heart and soul of our breeding program here at Pickerel Pups. This AKC Standard Poodle is absolutely perfect at 54 pounds - not too big, not too small, just right! He perfectly embodies everything we love about the breed’s temperament, being both a devoted family guardian and incredibly gentle soul. You’ll often find Claude keeping a protective watch over his family, but don’t let that serious side fool you! He’s absolutely smitten with his human mom and thinks he’s still a lap dog at heart. Nothing makes him happier than snuggling up for some quality cuddle time. Of course, all bets are off if a squirrel dares to enter his territory - then you’ll see his athletic side in full action! Claude brings exceptional genetics to our program with clear health testing and OFA clearances that give us confidence in every breeding. His stunning apricot coat with those gorgeous curls and that adorable little abstract white patch on his chest make him as beautiful as he is sweet-natured. But beyond his looks, it’s Claude’s perfect balance of loyalty, gentleness, and playful spirit that makes him such a special part of our Pickerel Pups family.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
