Meet the breeder

I'm Laura M., the breeder behind Pixie Dust Havanese located in Orlando, FL. We are passionate about creating loving and playful temperament pets for families! We conduct all health testing and show for verification that our puppies adhere to the highest levels of health and confirmation of the breed, yet our highest priority is temperament! We breed adorable and loving dogs.

Q. & A. with Laura

  • Why did you start breeding?

We fostered dozens of pregnant dogs and litters until one of our "foster fails" (a foster you adopt), Molly, had too high anxiety to tolerate new dogs coming in and out of our home anymore. We loved raising litters so much, we decided to start breeding a small-breed, hypoallergenic dog that would not detract from the deep needs to adopt larger mixed breeds from shelters/rescue.
  • What makes your program special?

80% of our proceeds are donated to dog rescue! We are driven by a passion to give back and help as many dogs as we can. The rescue and breeding worlds are sadly often divided, but we don't believe that needs to be the case. We believe ethically bred dogs for temperament and health are an art form. We will always take our dogs back and only care about finding all dogs the best homes possible.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white, cream, red, chocolate, red brindle, and chocolate brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Excellent level

Pixie Dust Havanese reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Havanese.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
