Q. & A. with Leslie
Why did you start breeding?
My parents bred dogs when I was growing up and I knew it was something I wanted to do as well. I didn't want to breed until I could show and make sure my dogs are up to the standard. I'm able to do that now. I aim to improve the breed so that there can be high-quality Poodles for people to enjoy and love.
What makes your program special?
I make sure my dogs are proven in multiple areas - conformation being first, then obedience, and anything else the dog may enjoy (like fastcat, rally, and agility). Health testing and temperament are important as well. We use Puppy Culture protocol and will try to place our puppies in homes that are compatible with the individual pups. We have only a few dogs at any given time so all the dogs get individualized attention.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, blue, and cream. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Prama Poodles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Miniature Poodles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
