I'm Judy I., the breeder behind Promise Kennels located in Sanger, CA. In addition to dogs shown in conformation, we have many therapy dogs and service dogs including a search and rescue dog. Our focus is temperament, health, structure, and longevity. We raise all of our dogs with love in our home. We have high expectations for our puppies and make sure to place each one with an enriching and loving family that will match their temperament and personality.

Q. & A. with Judy
Why did you start breeding?
Over 30 years ago I got my husband a Springer Spaniel puppy. He took her turkey hunting and she was fabulous. We bred her to train another Springer to hunt. One of our daughters showed the pup in 4H receiving HIT and qualifying to go to California State Fair. In addition to obedience, there was a conformation show. She decided at that time she wanted “a real show dog.” The rest is history!
What makes your program special?
Our focus is on longevity, health, and temperament. I may see a dog I like, but if longevity isn’t in the vertical pedigree, I cross him off my “PAWsability” list. Most of our puppies are placed as pet/companion puppies. We breed all-around Goldens that can be many things, depending on what their families need and the training they receive. We take pride in our program and in helping all of our clients find the right fit for their needs and lifestyle.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Promise Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Golden Retrievers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
