I'm Nancy S., the breeder behind Puppies by Piper located in Portland, MI. As a breeder, I am relatively new to the field, with my second litter of puppies now ready to find their forever homes, and with my upcoming retirement, my focus is shifting towards my passion for breeding, ensuring that each pup receives the utmost care and attention they deserve.
Q. & A. with Nancy
Why did you start breeding?
I bred my horse in my younger days. This is the first time I have bred my dog. I feel I will be good at this as I have lots of time to love, care and spoil my dogs.
What makes your program special?
Love and lots of hands on time with the puppies. Each pup is a part of our family. They are born inside our home and are cared for day and night. Our pups are loved and handled by children and adults from the time they are born. Each of them receives the love and care that is needed to help them grow into the confident, healthy and well adjusted dog.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are mini size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, black and white, tri-color, and phantom. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
