Meet the breeder

I'm Jay and Sherry R., the breeder behind Rainershine Goldens located in Kalamazoo, MI. Our dogs are part of the family and are raised in our home. We live on a small farm in the country where they enjoy plenty of room to run, swim and explore the woods. We do DNA genetic testing and have the eyes, elbows, hips and hearts tested on all of our breeding dogs.

Why did you start breeding?
As a veterinary technician, it was always a dream to become a Golden Retriever breeder. I learned a lot of awful things that can happen when they are not bred responsibly and saw first hand the heartache of losing a young dog because of a genetic problem that could have been prevented.
What makes your program special?
We know how exciting it is to get a new puppy, and we like to post pictures and videos of the pups starting the day they are born so their new families can watch them grow up for the first 8 weeks. Once they go home, most of our families keep in touch and send pics and updates that we share as well. It's literally a big family and it is so rewarding!!
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include dark golden, golden, and light golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Jay and Sherry

Jay and Sherry has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and $3,300 final payment, before taxes & fees.

"The price includes AKC limited registration, first round of vaccinations, deworming and puppy socialization. We are happy to discuss AKC full registration for a higher cost. The deposit will be deducted from the final price of your puppy."

Contract & health guarantee

Jay and Sherry may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. About Sunny
Sunny is our sweet, beautiful English Cream Golden Retriever. This girl has beauty and brains! She is very calm and gentle, extremely obedient, and comes from an exceptional European line of English Creams. We are excited to have Sunny as a part of our breeding program. She has passed all of her health certifications and has her OFA CHIC certification. She had Embark genetic testing, OFA hips, elbows, eyes and heart.

About Yooper
Yooper is our handsome, dark red golden male stud. He is gentle, goofy and very athletic! Swimming is one of his favorite hobbies, along with retrieving the ball. Yooper wants to be everybody's friend and loves to give hugs! You can't help but fall for his sweet personality. Yooper has passed all of his health certifications and has his OFA CHIC certification. Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Ichthyosis, Golden Retriever Type
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
