I'm Mary W., the breeder behind RedTeddy Poodles located in Ancram, NY. We cherish each of our dogs and puppies, and we do everything we can to make sure that they get the best lives possible. That includes everything from choosing healthy parents with good temperaments, to proper socialization and daily care, to placing them in loving homes with wonderful families. We have a fun, fenced in play area for younger puppies to dig in the dirt, play in tunnels and make puppy dens, and over an acre of land to explore for the larger puppies. On site are several dogs, puppy parents and also larger dogs so each puppy gets experience interacting with different size dogs. It is also an active environment, with humans coming and going, sudden loud noises, street sounds, and so on. We feel the 'careful chaos' environment is partially responsible for our puppies being great dogs - calm, confident, and loving, when they grow up.
Q. & A. with Mary
Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding by accident! I met a wonderful breeder named Joannie Heaton, who was the only one of all I called from the AKC website who agreed to help me get an open registration Poodle for my son, who was highly allergic but needed a dog of his own. I could not afford a pure bred puppy back then, Joan helped me by sharing how she bred, and training me to help her with her breeding program, and teaching me about the important tests to do before breeding. Since then I have passed her wisdom and kindness forward, helping people I trust to breed as co owners too.
What makes your program special?
After more than a decade of feedback from families who have our puppies, I continue to be astounded by the wonderful ways they describe their Redteddy puppies and the dogs they've become. I can only say that the great results we are getting must be due to how we love each puppy as an individual, take grat care of the mothers before and after the pups arrive, give the pups a host of changing early environments, plenty of fun time to explore, the best diet (some of it home made, some Royal Canin) and the attention to socialization with people and different size dogs.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies include toy and miniature sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, cream, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
