Meet the breeder

I'm Lorin B., the breeder behind RLA Miniature American Shepherds located in Snyder, TX. Puppies are evaluated on a weekly basis in order to determine temperament, drive, and aptitude by the time they are ready to meet their families. We believe that it is most important to produce healthy dogs whose personalities fit their homes rather than placing based upon physical attributes.

Q. & A. with Lorin

  • Why did you start breeding?

It started as a small hobby and then I got into showing. Over the past 13 years I have worked to improve the health, temperament, and structure of my program one generation at a time. I have been so blessed to work with some incredible mentors and learn from the very best in the business.
  • What makes your program special?

Our puppies are raised in our home with our children. We are as focused on temperament and health as we are on success in the show ring. We mainly work with our fabulous pet/companion homes in order to try to insure the best life for our puppies with lifelong homes.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies are miniature size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Miniature American Shepherd puppies include black & white, red & white, red tri-color, black tri, black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Miniature Australian Shepherd puppies include blue merle and red merle. Toy Australian Shepherd puppies include blue merle and red merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

After many months of searching for a puppy, I discovered Rafter L Mini American Shepherds. Lorin is kind, caring and professional. She was happy to answer all of my questions and address any concerns. Sage (formerly Charlotte) is a true joy! She has a wonderful temperament and is incredibly smart! Every day someone comments on how sweet and beautiful she is. A true testimony to Lorin’s exceptional breeding program. I highly recommend RLA Miniature American Shepherds!

This experience was incredible from start to finish! We knew we were in love as soon as we saw our boy and Lorin responded immediately to our message! She answered all of my questions and made the entire process a breeze which included having him flown to us in Virginia. It was worth every step of the way. He fits right in and in love is an understatement!

We had an incredible experience working with Lorin. From the very first conversation, she was responsive, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about her dogs. We recently received a Miniature American Shepherd puppy from her, and we couldn’t be more in love. Skye (previously Janie) has an outstanding temperament — calm, intelligent, loving — and it’s clear she was well-socialized and raised with care before coming home to us. Last year, we lost both of our senior girls girl dogs — within two months of each other. The grief was deep, and we weren’t sure when we’d be ready for another dog. When we found Lorin and saw Skye, we felt a sense of peace and knew she was the one. She has brought so much light and love into our lives already. Skye is truly special — she loves everyone, is eager to learn, and is a perfect fit for our home and hearts. Lorin made the process smooth and professional, answering every question and keeping us updated with photos and information. She was honest, supportive, and genuinely invested in placing her puppies in the right homes. Skye is healthy, beautiful, and has clearly comes from a breeder who prioritizes quality, health, and the well-being of her dogs. We are so grateful we found Lorin and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a responsible, ethical, and truly caring breeder. Thank you, Lorin, for bringing this sweet girl into our lives.
