Meet the breeder

I'm Marissa and Rachelle T., the breeder behind Sapphire Ridge Poodles located in Wheatland, CA. We are Rachelle and Marissa Terry. We live in Northern California on our 5 acre ranch. We got our first poodle in 2010 and have slowly grown our program since. Rachelle has worked in the veterinary medicine field for over 20 years, trained horses, is certified in animal nutrition, and bred Alaskan Malamutes for several years prior to our transition to poodles. Marissa has a history working in the vet field, dog training, dog grooming, and is currently an animal control officer. We have dedicated our lives to the animals we love so much. Working in an animal shelter and a veterinary hospital we have experienced firsthand many dogs that have been let down by people. Many dogs come to the clinic or shelter that are fearful, aggressive, unsocialized, shut down emotionally, or suffering from a genetic disease that could have been prevented with proper breeding and health testing. While we believe that adoption is wonderful, we also believe that families have a right to choose a dog from a breeder with confidence knowing that their new family member will be healthy and come from parents with good temperaments. Our goal is to change the negative stigma that breeders have been given. We strive to produce puppies that are well rounded family companions, could excel in the show ring, and have the potential to be an emotional support/service/therapy/or facility dog.

Q. & A. with Marissa and Rachelle

  • Why did you start breeding?

We rescued our first poodle over in 2010. We fell in love with the breed and wanted to provide other families with a quality puppy to add into their home. Prior to breeding poodles we bred Alaskan Malamutes, yes there is a huge difference in size and the amount of shedding. 😂
  • What makes your program special?

As mentioned, we have dedicated our entire life to animals. We raise all of our dogs and puppies inside our home and don’t have outside buildings or a kennel. Our puppies come straight from our home to yours and we guarantee you’ll love your new fur baby!
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include toy, miniature, and moyen sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, black, brown, red, parti, phantom, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Marissa and Rachelle were incredible to work with. From the very start their responses were quick, detailed, and informative. Our boy “Smooch” now Puka is an absolute joy and their description of his personality from the get go when he was only about 4-5 weeks old is exactly how he is today. He still remains that playful pup and will paw at us to get him to play more with him until he’s finally done for the day. I know it ever have questions Marissa is ready to answer and give her support still, which is important as a first time owner. Oh and I am also allergic to dogs but our boy hasn’t triggered my allergies so that’s a plus. Thank you Marissa and Rachelle!

Marissa and Rachelle were great to work with since the very beginning. They were quick in responding to all of my questions throughout the process and accommodating for the delivery at the Sacramento airport. Their thoroughness shows that they take great care of in raising the puppies in a safe and healthy environment. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to connect with them and bring my Ollie home to live in Alaska.

I had a wonderful experience with Marissa and Rachelle! They were responsive throughout the process, and picking up Samson went incredibly smoothly. Samson has clearly been well socialized—he’s such a happy, playful boy and gets along great with people and other dogs. He’s non-reactive, trusting, and so easygoing in new situations. Plus, he’s absolutely adorable (my totally unbiased opinion) and turns heads everywhere we go.

Marissa and Rachelle were lovely to work with! We’ve had our girl “Cannoli” for almost two months and we’re so in love with her- her temperament is lovely, she is so great with people, and we have a pretty good routine down at home. The puppy phase is definitely a lot of work but Marissa and Rachelle are clearly very knowledgeable about the breed and sent us home well prepared! They have also answered any questions I’ve had very quickly. Overall, I definitely recommend getting your poodle from Sapphire Ridge!

Couldn't be happier than I am with puppy Tyler (Orion). He's a sweetheart, gets along with everyone and both dogs here. He's pretty much potty trained himself and lets me know when he needs to go outside. Wakes only once during the night and whimpers until I take him out. We do call him Piranha Mouth as those little teeth are sharp! He's a total love. 🩷
