Meet the breeder

I'm Carol G., the breeder behind Skaldsong Swedish Vallhunds located in Oklahoma City, OK. One of the greatest traits of the Swedish Vallhund is that they are a little dog that can do big things. Maintaining type and herding ability without compromising on health and temperament is my goal.

Q. & A. with Carol

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I got my first Vallhund, breeding honestly was not on my mind. I come from a rescue background and have learned so much along the way about ethical dog breeding from my dogs' wonderful, dedicated breeders and many other friends I've met online or ringside. My boy has sired a couple of litters for other breeders and I am ready to produce my own.
  • What makes your program special?

While I am focused on maintaining type and workability, genetic diversity also plays a large role in my breeding decisions. As a rare breed, Vallhunds have a fairly shallow (yet exceedingly healthy) gene pool and work must be done to make sure they remain as diverse as possible. My dogs are all tested for genetic diversity by UC Davis along with their other OFA and genetic health testing.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
