Q. & A. with Brande
Why did you start breeding?
We fell in love with Miniature American Shepherds when we were looking for a wonderful, small-sized, family dog for our farm. This is our second one and we decided to breed her and promote the breed with good temperament and healthy puppies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black tri, red tri-color, red merle, and blue merle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Izzie
Izzie is a typical mini American Shepherd who loves her family and playing fetch. She will work (she isn't an actual working aussie, just follows us around) with us outside on our farm all day, or is perfectly content hanging out on the couch during a rainy day.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Skillet Creek Farm Aussies reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Miniature American Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary)

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Disease Panel, Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1), Hereditary (Juvenile) Cataracts (HC; JC)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
