Meet the breeder

I'm Julie H., the breeder behind Smiling J Ranch Corgis located in Clayton, WA. Our Pembroke Welsh Corgis are bred to be healthy and happy. We believe health testing is important for their well being. We want you to have your precious family member for many, many years. PWC's are athletic and stable, excellent temperaments.

Q. & A. with Julie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was raised on a large horse ranch. We grew up showing/breeding and training horses. I also participated in FFA. I bred my first litter of Labrador Retrievers when I was 19. They were hunting dogs. Years later I started breeding Bullmastiffs. Over the span of a dozen years I bred many AKC, Canadian and International champions.
  • What makes your program special?

I test all my adult breeding dogs for a variety of genetic diseases including DM, vWD1, EIC, and Pra3. We have started OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) testing for hips and eyes and will continue as the dogs become 2 yrs old. I will not compromise health for money My goal is to produce better puppies than their parents and continue to better the Corgi breed.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include fawn, red, sable, and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
