I'm Jessica L., the breeder behind Southern Belles Bassets located in Monterey, TN. We’re proud of the healthy, affectionate, and behaviorally well-rounded puppies we raise for other families to love! We have developed several protocols to ensure the health and well-being of all of our dogs. It’s our top priority to make sure each of our puppy families welcomes a happy and healthy new family member into their homes!

Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding so I could share the joy that bassets have brought into my life. My goal in my breeding program is to produce happy and healthy little puppies for multiple families to love. I strive to be a responsible breeder and follow OFA (CHIC certification) and BHCA Guidelines on proper testing for genetic disorders.What makes your program special?
I start with doing"Early Neurological Stimulation" (ENS) and "Early Scent Introduction" (ESI) at 3 days of life. I start potty training at 2 weeks of life. I also give them lots of love and cuddles. As a result. I am positive my puppies will become the perfect addition to your family and add just as much joy to your life as they have mine.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include lemon and white, red and white, blue tan and white, and black brown and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Jessica
Jessica has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Jessica partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape.

Price
"Puppies will come with AKC papers limited only, vet records, microchipped, litter certificate, and gift bag. Puppies will be picked at 4 weeks old. I will go down the deposit waitlist in order and puppy parents will pick their puppy and a $200 deposit is required to hold puppy of choice."

Clarabelle is such a good dog. She is super sweet. She is beautiful. She also loves to be with me every minute of the day. Her favorite activities is eating and sleeping. She is the perfect couch potato. She is a black, white, and tan with ticking. She is a Full European basset hound. DNA tested through Embark and paw print genetics. She has her CHIC number through OFA for completing all her testing.

Oakley is a 100% European. His dad was imported from Czech Republic and his mom was imported from Serbia. Oakley is a beautiful Tricolor male. Oakley is such a cuddle bear. He snorts and snores when he sleeps. He loves to scoot his butt instead of walk. He rolls on his siblings like a seal 🦭. His favorite thing is to snuggle with someone and play with his siblings. We absolutely love our Oakley boy!!!

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

This was my first time using Good Dog and my first time adopting one straight from the source. So I was unsure of the process going into it. Jessica was very responsive and answered all my questions quickly. I wanted to come see the puppies on a Sunday, even though she was needed elsewhere she made sure I was still able to come see them. The puppies she had are adorable and are well cared for. She had their medical records organized great and she had a care package for us to take home with us. I was very happy with Jessica Lawson. My basset puppy Celeste was well loved and well socialized with people and other animals when I picked her up on March 7, 2025. She was already used to car rides so the 2-hour trip home was no problem. Jessica and her mother, whom I also met, clearly love and understand dogs. Everything was explained to me throughout the process and this breeder was very responsive to my questions. I received regular photos and videos from Jessica so that I could see the puppy often before her actual going home day. I give Southern Belles Bassets a strong recommendation. They were great!
