Meet the breeder

I'm Jeff & Christy M., the breeder behind Southern Springers located in Forest, VA. We believe the first 8-12 weeks of a puppy's life matter. That is why we are NOT a kennel. We are family breeders who nurture and raise 2-3 quality litters a year with exorbitant care and attention in our home. We also take great pride in preparing and finding the perfect puppy match for your home.

Q. & A. with Jeff & Christy

  • Why did you start breeding?

Grandma was a dog breeder and our neighbors were so in love with our first Springer Maddie girl that we thought we'd breed one time for friends and family and be done, but we've had a waiting list ever since. Most of our families return for 2nd and 3rd pups. That was 15 years ago. People come from all over the U.S. because they trust us and believe in our process and the health history of dogs.
  • What makes your program special?

We recently partnered with one of our own Southern Springers' families to employ adults with special needs. Together, we socialize and give the pups a great start to make your role easier as you continue their love and training at home. We spend 6-8 hours a day with our pups and know them intimately before we carefully match them to your home. You will love seeing how they are raised!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and white and liver and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Jeff & Christy

Jeff & Christy has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Jeff & Christy partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“The matching process if extremely important to us. We spend 6-7 hours a day with our pups (most of their waking time) and know them inside and out before we attempt to pair them with families. We take great care in listening to your needs and offering options that we feel meet your desires after we have had time to watch the puppies' personalities develop. You are welcome to come to the farm in person to help select your pup or we can also achieve a great match through photos and video / FaceTime. We have been pairing puppies with happy customers for 15 years, and many have returned for their 2nd and 3rd pup. ”
