Meet the breeder

I'm Kelsey H., the breeder behind Spitfire Tollers located in Johnston County, NC. We breed Tollers for health, conformation, temperament, and drive. We strive to preserve the instincts that make Tollers amazing while improving the health of the breed. In particular, we hope to create Tollers for sport performance homes, where we feel they truly shine!

Q. & A. with Kelsey

  • Why did you start breeding?

It has always been our passion to preserve historic breeds for future generations, and I fell in love with Tollers over a decade ago, knowing they were the dog for me. As a new breeding program, we understand we have a responsibility to prioritize the health and wellness of each of our puppies. We are working with a couple of mentors to ensure we are following the standards of the breed.
  • What makes your program special?

At Spitfire Tollers, we strive to produce excellent companions and athletes. We understand the importance of dog health, temperament, and structure, and every breeding decision is made accordingly. We are constantly improving our breeding program and work closely within the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever community to do so. Our passion is in companion sports performance, particularly agility.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Spitfire Tollers breeds a fabulous sporting, conformation, and pet dog. She does excellent research to match the bitches with the best sire for each one. The work put in with these puppies on a daily basis shows when your puppy comes home. Between the genetics and time spent with the puppies the first two months of their life, these puppies come to new homes having already been exposed to people, children, other pets, wobble boards, tunnels, water, etc. Kelsey does an excellent job matching new puppies and their new homes. We could not be more pleased with our boy! Due to all the work she put in, he’s had an easy transition to his new home! We will definitely hope we are fortunate enough to get another Spitfire Toller in the future!
