I'm Melissa H., the breeder behind Stormborn located in Birmingham, AL. Our goal is to ensure every dog that comes from our program is set up to live a happy and healthy life and is prepared for its future role when it leaves our care. We provide each of our pups with lots of socialization and love, and we are dedicated to maintaining responsible breeding policies.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I started showing dogs over a decade ago and started breeding with the intention of bettering the breed, and also breed my own show dog. Of course, not all make it to the show ring so, I often have lovely pets to place in approved homes.

  • What makes your program special?

    I breed according to the AKC standard. Poodles are my passion and believe temperament and intelligence are just as important as beauty.

  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

    Our puppies include toy and miniature sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include apricot, black, cream, silver, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Melissa

Melissa has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Melissa partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“My ideal home would be a retired person or a work from home person who will be able to spend a lot of time with the new puppy or dog, working on house training and socialization. I’d prefer a home with no small children. ”

Price

Puppy prices include a $600 refundable deposit and between $900 - $2,900 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Typically male pups sell for less than females. Occasionally I have adult dogs for sale at a reduced price. I accept deposits but they’re not required. However a deposit will reserve a pup for the buyer.”

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    I am so glad that I found Melissa and her pups!! She was wonderful throughout the process of adopting my new baby girl, Harmony. She answered all my questions, and was more than happy to chat with me! It is obvious to me that poodles are her passion, and she truly, deeply cares for all her dogs and puppies. She had lots of advice for me on keeping this tiny little baby safe for her first year while she grows, and though Harmony is not my first toy poodle, I appreciated all the knowledge and experience she has. The day we picked her up, Melissa had a care package ready to go home with Harmony, and even helped us trim her little toenails a bit before we left because they were getting snagged on my shirt! I am so in love with our little Harmony. My husband is also completely smitten. She is feisty, and silly, and sweet, and completely precious. She now has two older sisters (an Aussie named Reina and another toy poodle named Melody) who she is learning to play with. We can’t imagine life without Harmony! She completes our family! 💖💖💖 Thank you so much, Melissa!!

    Melissa was amazing and so knowledgeable about the breed. I had worked with a show breeder as an assistant many years ago, so I knew I wanted to get a puppy from someone who was similarly meticulous about her breeding program and dogs. That was Melissa! My darling Harley is perfect in appearance and temperament. She is also very unique in her personality. She loves to cuddle, watch nature programs (especially about dogs), and hunt chipmunks (she isn't a shy little pup!) and is scary smart! She plays video games on her tablet, and howls like a wolf! While she is a tomboy, sometimes despite herself, she will strut across the yard as she would in a show ring. She is a beauty! I highly recommend getting a puppy from Melissa--Best, Sherry (me) and Natalie:)
