Meet the breeder

I'm Jessica S., the breeder behind Strauss Haus Shepherds located in Caneadea, NY. Our Shilohs are bred for health, temperament & intelligence and raised in our home as family. Laura K. & I have over 25 years’ experience and were taught by Shiloh Shepherd breed founder Tina Barber how to conduct a proper litter evaluation report (LER) to thoughtfully pair puppies with families.

Q. & A. with Jessica

  • Why did you start breeding?

We've had GSDs since we were kids. We began by studying the breed in the late 90s, met Tina Barber in 2001 and got our first Shilohs in 2001 and 2002. We were so enamoured with the intelligence, beauty and temperament of Shilohs, that we decided to become part of their world, & become breeders. We learned under the breed founder. Very few current breeders were directly trained by Tina Barber.
  • What makes your program special?

We have learned and applied our knowledge to our breeding program over the past 25 years. We have a strict standard for the temperaments/health of our Shilohs we breed. We produce the kind of puppies that can become therapy dogs, provide a service for their owners, excel in showing, dog sports, and are wonderful family companions. We have longevity in our lines. Our Taura lived for 15.5 years.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and beige, white, gray sable, black and tan, black and cream, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

“Puppies are matched with client based on temperament and what clients are looking for (i.e. temperament, plush versus smooth coats, gender, coat color). We temperament test our puppies at eight weeks of age and we will go over with you how your puppy scored on their temperament test and provide you with a summary. We were trained by the the breed founder, Tina Barber on how to conduct a proper temp test, and have been Temperament Testing Puppies for over 25 years. We match puppies with the client's lifestyle, experience level, and home environment. We work on clients on their best fit. Puppy placement is a joint decision between us and the client. ”
