Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Fable & Fern Beagles reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Beagles.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Cardiac Evaluation
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Courtney was amazing to work with and we are so grateful to her for the gift of our new puppy! She always responded quickly to messages, was transparent about the adoption process, and knowledgeable about any questions or concerns we had. She sent us daily updates from the moment we inquired, and we felt like we knew our pup for weeks before we even picked her up. We adopted Green Girl (now named Carmy), and she came to us knowing her name, already crate trained, and with great early socialization. Carmy’s temperament is a dream, she loves everyone she meets, she does not react negatively to noises or external stimuli, and she even sleeps through the entire night. We could not recommend Courtney more to anyone looking for the cutest new addition to their family.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience with Fable & Fern Beagles! Courtney is a pleasure to work with and she has such a wealth of knowledge and experience. Her puppies are being raised right in the heart of her home and are so well loved and cared for. We were able to visit her home and see first hand the wonderful environment these puppies are raised in. We received almost daily photos, videos, or updates about our puppy during the process and Courtney was so responsive to any questions we had. Now that we have our puppy home, we can say that she has the sweetest temperament and is so well adjusted.

Courtney is wonderful! She is so knowledgeable about the breed and it’s so apparent how much she loves and cares for her dogs, all of them. She not only took great care of them and sent constant updates, she even started socializing them and initiated some training like housebreaking and getting used to crates. She did it all in such a caring and respectful way. Where else can a pup spend time with children of different ages, chickens, a cat, etc. There was no doubt our pup was really part of her family before she became part of ours! Courtney continues to answer any questions we have quickly and thoroughly and truly loves when we update her about how our girl is doing. If you want to feel confident you are getting a dog from an ethical, kind, good person Courtney is definitely that!
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
