I'm Amanda P., the breeder behind Sugar Hill Hounds located in Brockway, PA. My name is Amanda Palmer, Mandy for short. My mother, Jody Lindemuth and I have been breeding, hunting, and showing our Beagles since the early 2000s. My mother is more of a silent partner nowadays, but she’s the reason I’m in the breed! Today my husband, Kurtis, helps with much of the work!
Q. & A. with Amanda
Why did you start breeding?
My mother and grandfather had Beagles. My mother took me to a dog show for my 13th birthday and I fell in love with the structural integrity of each breed. Because of this and my career in vet medicine, I believe good people should continue purebred lines. Most people dont try to preserve what the breeds were created for, so I feel my role is vital.
What makes your program special?
As I said previously most Beagle breeders aren't breeding for everything. Good temperament, structure, hunting drive, and health testing are all important roles in the breed. I appreciate the health testing and conformation but show people often don't appreciate what the breed was created for, circling a rabbit to a hunter. My dogs do both shows and field trials and are health tested.
