I'm Danae T., the breeder behind Summer Sun Goldens located in Jackman, ME. We only breed fully health tested dogs that meet the AKC breed standard. We also follow the Golden Retriever Club of America Code of Ethics. Our puppies are raised in our home as part of the family! We are very passionate about what we do and look forward to connecting you with one of our beloved puppies!
Q. & A. with Danae
Why did you start breeding?
I started in breeding Goldens after having owned them for several years and fell in love with the breed! I worked with a couple of breed mentors and went from there.
Breeding any breed is a very bitter-sweet thing!
Long nights, early mornings, late nights, puppy lose, mother lose, endless poo and mess, vet bills, food bills, etc. But it is all very worth it, cause in return you get puppy snuggles, kisses, love, you get to watch your healthy, cuddly, fluff balls grow up into healthy, happy, beautiful and handsome dogs! Despite all the hardwork, You get the satisfaction of watching them grow, and seeing their whole lives, everything they do and accomplish!
I strive to improve the Golden breed both in health and temperment. As a responsible breeder, I understand the important role that breeders undertake; that today's breeders are the guardians of the wellbeing of the future Golden Retriever. I strive to not only produce beautiful puppies, but to promote responsible breeding practices to ensure others can enjoy the Golden Retriever as much as I have for generations to come. Goldens have proven to be wonderful companions in my life, and it is a privilege to share that love and friendship with others.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program only breeds fully health tested dogs that meet the AKC breed standard. We also follow the Golden Retriever Club of America code of ethics. We believe the Golden Retreiver should have the ablities to do just about any event/job out there for a dog! We are currently working in dock diving and hunting, and will be expainding to other events as we go!
We understand how important health and temperment are in the Golden Retriever breed, and we do all we can to insure our Goldens have the best chance at a healthy, happy life! We work with, and keep in contact with each and every family that has one of our puppies for the entire life of the dog!
Where do your breeding dogs live?
