I'm Barbara L., the breeder behind Tzo Wen Chinese Shar Pei located in Sparta, NJ. We have been breeding since 1984. We specialize in producing versatile and well-socialized Shar-Pei of sound health and temperament. All of our dogs enjoy wonderful families, but it is not uncommon to see many of them competing in the show ring, agility and rally trials, or sharing their love with others as therapy and support dogs. We are very thankful for a legacy of wonderful dogs and would be thrilled to introduce you to your next Shar-Pei!
Q. & A. with Barbara
Why did you start breeding?
Our Shar-Pei, Shumi, taught us how unique a breed of dog could be. This breed is a wonderful family dog that is social, funny, and intelligent. A dog so meticulous about its personal hygiene, she literally screamed to be taken out of her box to go potty. Shumi grew up with our children and in time had children of her own. Her first litter produced our foundation show female "CH Shu Mai's Right on Target." She had three litters by some of the most renowned gentlemen of that time. In the five champions she produced, we were proud to home some of the most well-known Shar-Peis in our modern show world. I breed to not only ensure that quality Shar-Peis stick around for generations to come, but to continue my prized showline.
What makes your program special?
It's been quite a learning experience with the Shar-Pei; one we gladly share with people who have become as intrigued with the breed as we are. Through the years, we have kept abreast with the most up-to-date medical knowledge on the breed and have based our breeding on healthy, well-tempered males and females. Our dogs can easily go from the living room sofa to the show ring. We match our puppies and families with the expectation that they will enrich each other’s lives for the lifetime of the pet.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
