I'm Annette M., the breeder behind Uptown Cotons located in Vancouver, WA. We know dogs are such an important part of humans' lives we raise puppies who have been loved from day one. We take the health and long-term well-being of the Coton breed seriously and plan our litters with this in mind. Our dogs are family first and they are ready to be a joy-filled part of your family.
Q. & A. with Annette
Why did you start breeding?
Dogs have been such an important part of our lives we decided we wanted to make helping people get a healthy and happy new best friend part of our life work. We want people to be able to purchase healthy and happy dogs without having to cringe about where the dog came from. Our dogs are family first and will be treated that way for their entire lives even when their breeding career has ended.
What makes your program special?
Our dogs are family first and foremost! Our breed club does extensive health and genetic testing to preserve the long-term health of the rare Coton breed. Our gorgeous stud Mando is a black and white and expect to see black and white, silver, tri-color, and mink in our lines along with the traditional white Cotons.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

We searched for nearly two years after our beloved 15 year old bichon passed away. We applied for countless rescues and were denied for not having a fenced in yard or not having kids. When we decided to stop wasting money on rescue applications, I knew that I wanted a reputable, code of ethics breeder and it was super important to us that we were not supporting a backyard breeder or someone who disposed of their mama dogs as soon as their breeding usefulness expired. We wanted a breeder whose dogs are a part of their family and are happy and healthy in their forever home. I was cautiously optimistic when I found Annette/Uptown Cotons. She seemed to be exactly who we were looking for. We met over FaceTime and she vetted us as much as we vetted her. She was in the puppy welping room in her house she introduced each of her dogs and educated us all about the Code of Ethics requirements, the genetic health testing, and her process of training the puppies for the first 10 weeks to make sure they were socialized , happy, healthy, confident puppies. I asked for references and she provided several—all of whom had rave reviews. We decided to put a down-payment on a puppy and Annette kept us posted with frequent photos and videos. We went to visit around the 6 week mark and were welcomed into Annette’s home multiple times over our short visit from our east coast home. The puppies and Birdie (Walter’s mama) were clearly in a home full of love and care. The more we talked with Annette the more we knew we made the right decision. Our values were aligned about the health of the puppies too—from nutrition to flea control we were in sync. We picked up Walter (fka Spot) on Dec 31st and flew home. We had sent his airline carrier to Annette in advance so she could get him used to it and he was an absolute champ. Her advance training meant he was paper trained before we brought him home and he travelled without a hitch. He settled in perfectly and now he travels with me to work and has been to 21 states in his first six months. He is the welcome wagon wherever he goes and loves to greet people. It seems his purpose in life is to bring joy and we’ve decided to get him trained as a therapy dog. We’ve had our first nursing home visit and he is confident and unafraid of beeping machines and assistive devices. He loves nothing more than to sit in someone’s lap and be loved on. We love him so much, he is playful and curious but is also content and chill as long as he’s with one of us. He comes with us everywhere and everyone is amazed how well behaved, cute, and friendly he is. We can’t imagine our lives without him and are so grateful we found Annette.
