I'm Betsy P., the breeder behind Vandalia Kennel Dutch Shepherds located in Hedgesville, WV. The inspiration behind Vandalia Kennel Dutch Shepherds was my husband's K9 partner, Bruno, a Dutch from the Holland KNPV program. Bruno epitomized the ideal Dutch- social, stable, high drive, impeccable working ability with an off switch, fearless, loyal, companion on the streets and in our home. We have been breeding, training and competing with our Dutches since 2006. Recently we imported two extremely rare Rough Haired Dutch Shepherds (the "werewolves"), Rufus from Belgium and Molly from Finland to help preserve this rare variety. The Roughies make delightful active family companions with a hypoallergenic coat that is non-shedding. Roughies are highly intelligent with a terrier like enthusiasm for life that is ideal for active family homes. 10% discount to first responders.

Molly was imported from Hollandroy Kennel in Finland. Thank you to Ulrika for allowing us to bring this beautiful rare Rough Haired Dutch Shepherd to the USA. Molly is a joy to live with, comical, talkative and forever wanting to please her handler. Molly's favorite phrase is "wooo wooo" I love you. Molly has won several Best of Breed and Best in Miscellaneous Class in her show career. We are excited to bring these genetics to the USA to pass on for future generations. Molly achieved her CM - Certificate of Merit from AKC in 2025 which is the conformation championship equivalent for the FSS- Foundation Stock Service.

Rufus was imported from Basirguns Kennel in Belgium. Thank you to Gudrun for allowing us to bring this wonderful male to the USA. Rufus is a delight. He epitomizes the traits of the very rare Rough Haired Dutch Shepherd. He is very biddable, highly intelligent and a wonderful companion who is also very alert and watchful over his family. He has won several Best of Breed and Best in Miscellaneous class wins during his show career.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Glaucoma (BCG), Border Collie Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
