Meet the breeder

I'm Greg W., the breeder behind Vanguard Giants located in Tombstone, AZ. Lifelong dog lover breeding majestic Giant Schnauzers since 2010. Our puppies are raised right in our home alongside our kids, utilizing Puppy Culture and ENS for the best start in life. Dedicated to raising healthy, well-socialized, and confident companions for your family.

Q. & A. with Greg

  • Why did you start breeding?

Growing up with dogs, I always looked for the perfect blend of a working partner and a loyal family protector. When I discovered Giant Schnauzers, I knew I’d found the ultimate breed. I started breeding them in 2010 to share their amazing spirit with others. Our countryside farm is the perfect backdrop for raising confident, well-rounded puppies who are just as ready to work as they are to cuddle.
  • What makes your program special?

Our program succeeds because we treat breeding with the same precision I bring to my welding trade and the deep care I give my farm. From day three, our pups undergo neurological and scent stimulation to boost their health and confidence. Raised in our home around family, fully vetted, and delivered via trusted, zero-ground-contact transport, they get the ultimate head start.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Vanguard Giants reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Giant Schnauzers.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
