I'm Chelsea M., the breeder behind Van-Mar Beagles located in Auburn, CA. We are a small hobby breeder of Beagles located in northern California. We focus on the conformation, health, and temperament of the Beagle both as a show dog and companion, and aim to improve the breed while also preserving its past.
Q. & A. with Chelsea
Why did you start breeding?
Animals have always been a huge part of my life. I was raised on a 40-acre ranch were my passion for animal rearing and breeding began. In 2003, I was introduced to dog shows through 4-H while knees-deep in my dairy goat breeding program. I was instantly hooked. I sold all my goats, got a Labrador to show, and never looked back. Five years later, I began breeding Beagles under the Van-Mar prefix.
What makes your program special?
What makes our program special is that our goal is to preserve and improve the breed as a whole. We focus on the health, temperament, and self-confidence of our dogs first and foremost, while simultaneously maintaining breed type and adherence to the AKC standard. All our puppies are lovingly family-raised in the center of our home, making them excellent companions for their new families.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
