Meet the breeder

I'm Karie C., the breeder behind Waldrand Kennel LLC located in Nekoosa, WI. It’s important to us that we continue to improve our program and share our knowledge with our buyer families. We want to better the breed through thorough health testing and selective breeding decisions.

Q. & A. with Karie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I got into German shepherds in 2012 when I began a mentorship under Larry Filo of Steinig Tal Kennel in WI. Since then I have been researching and planning my first litter which will be born mid Nov 2019. My bloodlines are ones I'm familiar with when placing K9s into police departments.
  • What makes your program special?

I am striving to produce dogs that are true utilitarian animals. Dogs that are ready and willing to work hard but also cuddle up on the couch. Fierce protectors that are stable around children, and possess good natural instinct.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, black, black and tan, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Great level

Waldrand Kennel LLC reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • DNA Profile, Full Embark Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
